    Hello All,

I am building my first Hot Rod and need some help.

I have an aftermarket '32 Ford chassis (ASC Rails) and plan on using a '55 Ford F-100 box with the help of a Vern Tardel "Wedge" plate.

    I am using a 4" drop '32 Heavy axle...split '32 wishbones...'39 Ford spindles...using a Speedway "Ford" steering Hoop (for tie rod end).

I guess what my question is.....What steering arm looks right for this chassis combo?

I heard of taking a '53-'56 Ford F100 Pitman Arm and removing the ball...welding the hole...and drill it for a 7 degree hole for a tie rod end (Which I prefer). OR...should I use a stock '57-'60 Pitman arm?

    Anyone have any advice?

I've still got that 57 box if you need it.

I like the ball end. It worked then and will work now.....but the ball has to be round, not egg shaped

I have the exact same setup on my 31 (32 rails f100 box) I kept the ball socket on mine but drilling and reaming it for a tie rod should be no problem. The steering angle with the 4 inch drop axle was another problem I mounted a tie rod at the other end and turned a hoop style arm upside down and heated and bent it so the tie rod just clears the axle and there is still a bit more angle than I would like.

Nice! This info is great! I was originally going to use '32 Ford spindles, and just heat and bend the stock steering arm down (has stock ball)....but I have a super nice set of '39 spindles that I am using (have to use hoop)....so this is why I was asking about using a tie rod end instead of the stock ball setup.

Well, when it comes down to it...I will know. Thanks for the reply's.
