Anybody know the history of these? I am told that these are early 32 Ford handles. I have the later T handles apparently. I have seen them before but never really thought much about them until now. Thanks
Not sure about the style but I believe the early ones were painted body and stainless on the top latch part. HRP
Early '32 hood latches had a single-finger pull like pictured. Changed to a two-finger pull not too far into production. Originally had a chromed top and painted body on p***enger cars, and all painted on commercial. Looks like the one pictured was totally chromed later in life.
Thanks for the info. I guess I never realized it until just recently. Might have to see if I can find a set of OG's.
There were lots of changes to the 32 during it's run. The car in the picture has a "later" hood on it as can bee seen by the final louver being false.
I was told by a long time ford club guy that the single finger pull style was only on the production line for two weeks. We guessed that they possibly got in the way of side mounted spare. JohnnyA
I'm guessing they were used longer than 2 weeks because I've had a few over the years and if they were that limited in production, they would be practically non-existant now. Maybe they were only used for the first month? My ***umption for them being replaced was that when the hood was opened the tip of the finger pull would hit the fender and chip the paint.
Which was a later hood. The car has a mis-match of parts on it. The '32 restorers would cringe at the inaccuracy.
Were those used only on trucks or did some cars have them too? They sure seem to bring big money so must not have been a large number produced.
This car also had a Winterfront grille on it. I did see that they are re-popping those to the tune of $3200 but havent seen the latches I posted being reproduced.
