Ok, i have a 32 ford (pic in profile) that currently does not have a hood. Given that it has a V8 stuffed into it and i dont want to try tucking headers and pipes to clear a full hood i was looking at just adding the top portion. Ive seen it on plenty of other cars but i was wondering how you would typically hold that portion of the hood down by itself without the clamps that are on the side panels. Thanks

  2. Straps, Dzus fastners, pins and hidden catches are all options

Thanks. I was hoping to get some pics from people if possible. Straps are a no go, ive considered dzus and didnt even think of a hidden catch of some sort.

I made a set of straps from some fishing line and some br*** brazing rod. The straps are springy because of the fishing line. They just slip into the loops on the hood bottoms. No drilling or any modification to the hood or body. I have used this set for 30 years. It does not rattle, it moves with the car, no noise. It will let the sides bump up maybe 1/2" when a semi p***es the other way and both of us are at speed. Very easy access to the engine. On my avatar, I used the piano hinge on the side of the hood top as a conduit. I ran a pin down it into the firewall, drilled a hole in the firewall for the pin to slide into and bent the other end at a ninety degree angle to use as a handle. On the radiator side, the pin slid easily behind the radiator shell to hold it in place.

Just use 2 black rubber bungie cords. One between the back 2 loops, and 1 between the front 2 loops. That's how I do it on my 32 Coupe and my brother on his 32 Sedan.

This is a Dan Fink lift-off hood kit. Sorry I don't have better pictures.
    After installation it's hidden under the hood top. DSC02974 (2).JPG DSC02975 (2).JPG DSC03211 (2).JPG DSC09055 (2).JPG

It seems there’s a thread on this every several months.

I don't have a picture, but I made a set for a car at work. Using the loups for the side panel hinges, some rod and a spring. The rods went through the hinges and into a hole drilled in some flat stock and mounted on the cowl and grill shell. The springs pushed the rods into the holes on the grill and cowl. They were not visible from the side of the car.

I had the same question yrs ago on mine and a hamber relayed this info. I just use the hinge rods and some cheap tie down straps (not ratchet) front and rear looped thru them, cut off excess and it hasn't budged one bit. Under $10, out of sight, and not as ***bersome as these kits.
