Carb is a 500 CFM Edelbrock 1902 AVS 2 whatever that means? Distributor is SBC Chevy with a Pertronix module. I like what HotRodPrimer said about his, I'd be tickled to get there. I've ordered the correct re calibration kit for this carb but have to find someone in the area that knows what to do with it?

@Joe H would be the first guy I think of if I was trying to get it dialed in as you’re talking about.

maybe the next time you’re down grabbing something from Pete and jakes you take the truck and make a detour?

Tim: Next time I go to P&J"s I'll be picking up a 32 chassis and complete SS exhaust system. I had them do me a custom speced frame and J&M do me a SS exhaust for my 32 FF roadster. Won't fit in the 32 truck.

Brakes are plumbed. Fuel filter mounted. Had them do a custom X that used the K member they offer then they added to it. Biscuit motor mounts for a SBC with 400 turbo, rear 4 bar with buggy spring, no floor pedals. All this makes running the exhaust much simpler. They were kind enough to indulge my design.

stick your finger in the tailpipe and wipe the inside of the pipe, is your finger black? Most new carbs are calibrated for a 350 and is probably way too rich for a 265. your calibration kit should come with a chart showing the combination of jets and rods that you have and the different combinations for both richer and leaner. Try a combination that is about 2 numbers leaner and then try it. It may take a few times to get it right. If it surges at freeway cruise you have gone too lean. This stuff is easy, anyone can do it. here are some instructions

Is your finger test supposed to have a particular taste?

Moriarity: Thanks for the advise. You nailed it. Tail pipes look like it's a coal burner. You have to realize that for the last 40+ years I've been walking around a frame table building chassis. It's sad to admit but when it gets down to motors I am severely challenged and choose to leave that to people with the proper skills. I'll stick to the other mechanical's involved in a hot rod.

I was very intimidated the first time
I took one of those carbs apart but it was extremely simple. There are lots of you tube videos of them doing exactly what to do. I bet you can do it no trouble

Your confidence in my skill is overwhelming. I know my limitations.
