Fellas, Please do not use the puller that attaches to the studs and you then beat it senseless with a BFH. That will only ruin your hubs and possibly drums. I know it's tempting because it looks like that type of tool will do the job, but they do not work on a Morse taper set up like a Ford drum.
That could be true with the 3 legged models, but I have been using this 5 leg, and the adapter I made for wide 5 for a quarter century, and never had a problem.
I've never seen one like that and I looks like a life saver for wide five. Yes, I'm referring to the 5 on 5.5" type of drum. It seems like the design of your tool is pulling straight back with that large flange on the wide five studs and the inner puller arms surrounding the axle stub. That flange is keeping the drum from wanting to pull inward and distort. Thanks for sharing.
If you use this tool the way you said, yes you can damage things. That is why I mentioned how to do it, in my post. This puller was designed and used with success close to a hundred years ago. I have never damaged a hub with my puller , using my method. These pullers come up for sale occasionally, mainly because the folks selling them have no idea what they are! Lol I gave $20 for mine at a garage sale! Some folks can tear up a steel ball with a rubber hammer! Bones
All the people who posted with tools and procedures which work are highly intelligent but, I have to wonder, what @Marty Strode 's IQ is?
Here is what you need: from Bratton's antique auto parts in MD. Get that threaded sleeve also, so you won't damage the threads on the end of the axle. You can phone them at 301-829-9880. That sleeve allows you to push on the little shoulder on the end of the axle, not on the threads!
You have to ask yourself. Is this the last time I will ever pull a hub? Do I want to keep fighting with it every time? Do I want to damage anything by whacking it with a hammer? Does this car deserve to be handle with a little care? Sometimes guys need a 2x4 to head. Buy the Vintage puller!!
