Just got my roadster on the road and I find the windshield blows back at very low speeds. I have seen some bronze bases that have a stop molded in, but mine does not. What are some ideas on making some stops to solve the problem. Thanks

  2. On my Model A, I made up a couple of SS flat bar tabs that bolted to back of stanchions. The windshield would stop up against them. Roadster's long gone, so no pictures.

I drilled a small hole on each base behind the frame and pressed in a short piece of stainless rod that the frame pressed against.

Well that is what I was going to do. Got it laid out,but thought I'd seek and other solutions before I drilled.

  5. Do you have the rubber gaskets in the windshield frame and is there a small protrusion
on the post that keeps it from folding back?

Charley. If I read his post correctly he's not talking about the posts folding back but the frame between the posts ****ing thru the posts at speed. I had this problem with pre chopped frame I bought that was just a scoch short and there wasn't sufficient rubber contact to stop the frame from pushing back. That's the one I drilled the lower post and used a tiny piece of stainless rod to stop the problem.

My younger bro built a '29 R.P. w/472" rat mill. I road tested it, went thru the Muncie gears and at top of 3rd (fast!) the windshield blew back horizontal, loudly. I thought the engine blew, and took the cowling with it.
Nasty surprise at speed... could have been grim...

    1. Do you have the gaskets/seal around the frame?
    2. How close is the bottom of the frame to the body ridge across the cowl?

Should only be a small gap and the seal prevents the blow through.

Mine did that to me when I first got it over 60 !!! In the bottom of both lower windshield stantions, I drilled a small-ish hole, tapped it, and screwed in a short piece of threaded rod (cut-off bolt or all thread) then screwed a chrome acorn nut on that sticks out far enough to act as a stop. Problem solved.

Yes, I have the rubber in the frame side and bottom and the stop is there for the stantion , but the windshield comes back at 30mph with the nuts tightened. I'll probably drill a hole and make a stop. Thanks for the suggestions
