    I picked up this Waltham speedometer yesterday. It looks like a 32 Speedo except for the mounting brackets. Before I go and modifying it I wanted to make sure it wasn't rare or valuable.
    It's got 9517 written on it.

    Boy the hamb is changing.....used to get an answer on just about anything in 15 minutes.....been almost 12 hours and nothing....

  3. Looks like '32 speedo but the mounting abs are different.

  4. not only the mounting tabs but the bevel on the bezel don't look right to me.

    I had a '32 speed-o years ago and I'm sure that it didn't look like that.

  6. IIRC, there were 3 suppliers for '32 speedometers; Waltham, Stewart Warner, and AC. Walthams are generally harder to source parts for and more difficult to rebuild.

    '32 Speedos have similar mounting ears, but are tack welded to the sides rather than the back...bezel on the Waltham is quite different from the SW and AC speedometers I have;

    Taper on protruding ring is wrong, as tw points out, and the tabs would not be near anything they could bolt to on a '32 or '33-4 truck that uses the same 90 speedo. Tabs for sure do not look like a modification, so I think basic answer is NO. Slot for light also looks wrong at center. That being said...if it's as close as it looks, it could be adapted... and if it's actually the same basic instrument, as it appears, it could be slid right out of the can and be used for an instant rebuild of a dead '32 equivalent. The holes on can differ on the various makes, it would be interesting to see if this fits holes in a '32 Waltham can.

  10. Possibly 33,34 pickup,my '32 pickup speedo was almost identical to the one that was in my sedan. HRP

    I am curious what it's for....doubt pick up. The glass....although broken is thick and has sort of a bevel cut on the edge. It's made so the glass is flush with the outside edge of the Bezel.
    I know Ford did some early and late stuff on 32's. Wasn't sure if this was the case. It's a dead ringer for a 32 besides the mount and the bevel on the bezel.
    Thanks Clark

    Bruce...I guess I shoulda showed it to you Saturday....did you enjoy the magazines

    Can't be any of those Ford apps, none of them have anything those tabs could bolt to. I'm pretty sure it's from a Nonford or such.
    Clark! I have very poor face recognition, not to mention that when I'm focused on ancient paper and rust I don't notice the liveware! Good to have seen you, even though from a barely sentient perspective! Did you check out the pie booth? PULLED PORK BARBECUE PIE!!!
    Anyhow, good reading. Been looking for that Champion book for years...I think I lent mine to an ingrate!

    Bruce...glad the paper went to a good home.
    I've got a couple of auburn gauges and it may end up paired with them in my 34.....or who knows what.
