Projects '32 Ford subrails

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by hemisteve, Oct 24, 2008.

  1. I'm looking at starting to un-channel the old chopped '32 Tudor I bought last winter - it has no floor, is about 4 to 5" over an original '32 frame and has been welded to the frame  !!! I have an old '32 PU cab I bought for some parts and it has a really nice set of subrails - will these fit the Tudor? I realize they are essentially front rails and not full length but could they be the start of a decent set of subrails to get this lame old body back up where it belongs?

    Thanks,
    Steve

I suspect everything will start looking wrong after about the first 6 inches...pickup cab is same width as passenger at firewall, then gets wider by quite a bit.

i have a complete 32 2 dr floor, with subrails in my building.i bought it to use in one of my 32 3w`s.do you have any 32 3w stuff to trade?the 32 2door floor is a lot closer to the 32 3w floor than the32 roadster or 5w.chris

Pickups are WAY too different to even get you started on the conversion. Three-windows are really different as well, but who'd want to waste a 3/W floor in a tudor anyway?

If you can't find a tudor, buy a brookville roadster subfloor and leave off the outers and tail pieces. You will find the bottom edge of the rockers will need to be lowered gradually from the back of the cowl all the way to the rear fender. Then you will also need to make it wider at the lower quarter area as well.

I'd bet if you bought the basic Brookville subrails you'd still have enough of the original outer subrails to put the two together correctly. A stock firewall will position the front of the body, and borrow some nice rear fenders to bolt to the frame and position the back half.

If you need some photos let me know the exact area you're confused about and I'll shoot it for ya.
