Hey guys, long-time lurker, new member. I recently acquired a 1932 Ford Roadster, gl*** Bodied. I'm in the process of making some changes to make it my own, and one big thing that has bothered me,is the tires and wheels. It doesn't feel like it has the right stance, I feel like the rear tires are way too small. I don't want to do anything crazy, but I would like to get a bigger tire with a deeper Rim in the back. The front seems to be somewhat okay but I would like your opinions . As most younger, new hot rodders I'm on a limited budget. I don't even like to go on coker's website because it reminds me of how poor I am. I definitely want to stay away from White Walls... I want to get the tires and wheels done, and then bench seat is going back in, and I'm going to get rid of those bucket seats. Any help would be greatly appreciated, maybe someone else has a 32 Ford that can point me in the right direction. Thanks
A deeper rim in the back with a taller tire would kinda look cartoonish. You might have to go with a bit narrower rim to get a nice 29-30" tall tire. Are you looking for radials, or bias bly?
I'm not entirely sure. I was thinking about going with a radial tire. That necessarily taller than what's on it now but definitely wider.
Depends on what look you're going for , How much wider are you loking for ? rear rims look 7-8 on car now , average tire and rim Look to pay $100-$150 for each wheel & tire X8. so that will be $1,200 New Use search engines / Google to see what you like Maybe 275/60/15.
So what size is on the back now? Not many larger tires are cheap these days. Coker still sells the 285-70-15 black wall for about $225.00 each plus fairly reasonable (not free or cheap) shipping. > they are a nice riding, quiet tire. YES! I SAW YOUR COMMENT ABOUT COKER PRICES > JUST TRYING TO HELP. MAYBE.
Welcome ! Nice Roadster ! Just a suggestion, drive it, enjoy it, take some time at shows/cruises to think through your vision of making it yours. Wheels and tires are the deal on changing up a look for any ride, any combo, $1000 minimum all the way to $2/3000. Enjoy the Hobby !
If you are looking for a "traditional hot rod" look, the tires were not very wide and had a taller side wall on them. I like what is on there now, and agree with wicarnut, drive it for a while and research wheel tire combinations for 6 or more months. As a new owner of the car your preference will probably change during that 6 months time and you will make your own decisions based on the look you want. Again, love the car man!
I've been runnin 145x15 on 5 " and 235 85 x 16 on a 7" on the last 6 or 7 I've done and usually around $800 for everything + $100 for hub caps
