Just wondering how far the lower edge of the gearbox opening in an original 32 k-member is, when measured from the top of the frame rail? Knowing this measurement allows one to determine if a non- original gearbox will fit into the opening without disturbing the lower portion of the k-member, given that the upper portion may have to be removed. I hope I've explained myself adequately. Thanks
Your not asking the right question. The hole for the steering box does NOT go throught the K-member, but through the frame side rail ahead of the left leg of the K-member. Frank
It's looking like 7 1/2" from the bottom of the trans opening to the top of the K member. Frank, I too thought that he was refering to a steering gear box but then realized it was the ****** gearbox I hope anyway?!
Thank-you very much. Thats exactly what I needed to know. I guess you guys call a gearbox - a transmission, whereas we call a steering box - a steeringbox We call an automatic gearbox a transmission or an auto. No wonder English is such a hard language for non-English speaking people to learn, especially when us native English-speaking people cannot agree on terminology.
I've often wondered if actually being awake would make any difference when trying to decipher an question. I got less than 2 hours sleep last night and after a nap this morning I sure qualify for a swift kick in the *** over this one. Sure, the terms differ from one country to another so I'll use that as my excuse. Hope a more aware answer has helped you. Frank
