My latest smile maker arrived yesterday. It was not a planned buy but an opportunity. Not sure what I have in mind for her yet.

I think it's a Repro Steel 32 style Roadster which is a Swedish body made by ReproSteel. I was hoping it was a Brookville when I first heard about it but several clues lead us to conclude it's a Swedish body. It'll need a bang and a slap but should come up nice. In my opinion, these bodys are rated as...ok --> good...ish. Anyway, it is what it is and should provide plenty of fun.

One idea I have is to use the flathead v8, gearbox, gauges, quick change, brakes and wheels from the 26 T "racer" . I know it seems a shame to not build the racer but maybe one of you can use the left over bits (sheet metal, frame and suspension and anything I can't use on the roadster. I'll take any stones or comments you'd like to throw at me as per usual.

The finish is not absolutely brilliant (as I've heard the Brookvilles are) so I would expect them to cost less than Brookville. I'm not even 100% sure what it is to be honest. I suspect it's not a Bville. I'd love for someone who knows to tell me how I can identify one from the other.

I bought this one second hand and I'm down in Australia so I'm not sure how much they will cost delivered to the US. There is a dealer in the US. I'll see if I can dig up a link.

I'd have a real hard time not getting excited about a Deuce roadster.

Would make a good stable mate for the 5wd...

True, I've been out to look at it and feel it up a few times today. I'm also thinking a matched pair would be nice. The coupe would get the Nailhead, and this car would get the mechanicals from the T "racer" and would be my first Flathead powered car. Nailhead, Flathead, more heads around here than a Colombian rain forest. I'd still prefer the roadster to be old steel but for now new steel will do. Might be a better place to practice metal work than the coupe.

I'm hearin' that. For sure. I'd be very surprised if this ended up being a B'ville body. We are pretty sure it isn't. There is a lot of grinding marks I'm going to have to deal with but it sits fairly square and from a distance...I've got to admit. It does the trick.

I'm also looking at my Rodder's Journal 32 Real Steal Roadster right here next to me on the desk and I've got enough mechanicals to make a car inspired by it. It's already been steeled out and ***embled so it's (obviously) a great start.

That roadster looks ok to me Tom. Good point. If the car, when it's done, evokes the right emotions, the job's done.

  15. Nice score 32Ford 5....

What ya gonna do to the FH that you're putting in the roadster?

Apparently it's a runner. I'll probably whack on the heads (after check and machining them for flat), dual intake, and see what happens. I'd fire her up as is but there's no carb. Everything else is there apparently. I can't wait. Never really considered myself a Flathead kind of guy, now I can't wait to hear it fire up! I read that's a pretty normal affliction around these parts.

    door latch.
can you take a picture of the inside handle too?

typically what separates the bodies from one maker to the next.

I think the door jamb is the give away...on the Brooky it is a two piece as Henry...and the Swede has a one piece pressing....I think that is the right way around.

Pretty sure it's a Swedish ReproSteel car. Details are way too different. If I paid for a Brookville and got this it would be going right back! However, this is what it is and is has lots of potential. The shapes are right on the outside in most of the right places. As long as anyone I sell it to doesn't try to p*** it off as an old Ford or B'ville it'll make a good car. Once you see these pics below you will see what I mean. I'm going to do a bodywork course and if I don't swap or sell this body I'll fix it up myself.

Above: Door latch and spot-type welding of frame.

Above: Inner braces behind cowl. Notice the caulked firewall.

Above: I think this area could have been finished off a bit nicer.

Above: No round access holes in trunk inner metal.

Above: Looking from the outside up at the top left corner of the firewall. Spot welded in...why?

Above: Bit of work is going to be needed in this area. The other side is the same.

Above: Blanked out? Door (every) edge needs some work.

Above: Looking at the bottom left hand corner of the trunk. The screw is the stopper.

Above: Caulking? Bolt holes are not patterned off a 32 Ford.

Above: Trunk support and hold up mechanism is crude will need refining.

Above: The panels do seem to have the right shape though.

There's going to be a perfect use for all this metal. I'm just not sure what.

None of the areas that you have shown are anywhere as nice as my Brookville. I once considered a RepoSteel..............glad I resisted.

Some sort of race car maybe? It would be amusing to see it appear in the last place you'd expect to find a 32 Roadster.

I would not mind having that body. She needs,But all of that is not all that hard to finish up. Just some time and alot of sweat.
