Seems to be lots of interest in the Barker V Drive so you might be interested in this old advertisement.
Sorry mate, I was looking on my phone and it was a bit hard to tell the difference on the small screen but jeez didn't that start some conversation. What if you could find a yellow faced speedo to match the 4500 tach to sit between the black guages.
Yes I would mix and match option #1 & #2 only, due to the fact that the needles are the same style, except the obvious black faced gauge white needle, white faced gauge black needle. I would not mix the thin line needle black faced gauges would keep them as a matched pair.
Yes I found the Wico mags very easy to rebuild no rocket science required. I also have a Harmon & Colins magneto which I was running on my 32 coupe did 3,000 miles with it on until the coil failed. Fitted a MSD electronic ignition to the coupe for the interim while I sourced parts to repair the Harmon & Colins, the MSD unit had less than a 1,000 miles on it when it failed, the magnetic pickup just stopped working. I have since rebuilt the Harmon & Colins mag but have yet to fit back. I actually prefer the Barker V drive & Wico mags to the Harmon & Colins as far as setting up the timing and working on in the car the Barker unit is a lot more user friendly.
cully, really enjoying your build, personally i like the dash with all the black face gauges but there is only one person to please and that is you. Al.
This is what is so good about the HAMB you put some options up for members to give you there opinion on, which you get. But you also start to get debates happening and a wealth of information unfolds about items, such as dates of manufacture etc. etc. I know in the end it will be my personal choice as to which gauges I decide to use and how I lay the dash out, but all this good info will ultimately have an effect on my decision.
Good job Cully, great thread. Glad to see a more traditional build here in West Oz. I vote for installing the Police Special speedo with the remaining gauges all black. keep up the good work.
Just spent a couple of hours reading your posts. Great work and imagination. I f I were to build a 32 many of your idea's I would copy. SUBSCRIBE !!
Thanks waxhead, seen your pickup at fiddys they actually rang me to go for a ride in it to check the gearbox noise, you have a very cool ride there.
Yeah, thanks for that Cully, Dave mentioned that you checked it out for him. I have a new Mitchell synchro gearbox on the way, and another 4 banger engine. Keep the updates coming.
Cully, As much as I like the police special gauge the last set-up with the all black thin line gauges looks killer. So I guess yuou might as well send me the PS gauge and I will use it in the 3 window. Fat chance I know....Trashing away on it and the 54 truck at the same time....Really dig the roadster...Wish I could come help ya. Dennis
Dennis, you know you and Kathy are welcome to come down under anytime you like, free accommodation. Come to think of it might be best when I'm home don't know if I could trust you in my shed all alone with all my goodies Cully
Alchemy do you know when this car was built with that gauge set, I love the 2" smooth bezel flat glass gauges, I have been collecting a few of them for my next build.
Update time well managed to get the engine back together last time home plus a couple of other items crossed of the list. Sent the rotating assembly out to machine shop, had the flywheel lightened and full balance job. While they were doing there thing I drilled and tapped the oil gallery's for oil filter connections and drilled the lifter bores for ease of adjusting the new adjustable lifters which I will be fitting.
This just gets better and better...... You are building a fine Hot Rod Cully! Keep up the Great Work!
Cully, You might have that right as my bag coming home I am sure would be bigger if I was turned loose in your shed. You always have the coolest parts. Just joking as I am not that way, but you can bet I would look everything over really good. That way when you can't find a part you could just email me and I could tell you where it is at in your shed. Not much progress on the 3 window this last week as we had a big storm with very large hail. Busted out the windows on the North side of the house and beat the crap out of my roof on both the house and garage. Took out all the windows at my shop also. So I have spent all week cleaning and fixing things. But it could have been worse I guess. Take care mate
