This story is all about the Money, As usual. Look what the next guy is gunna pay. Woulda loved to see some Kid buy it for a grand, but thats the way these things go. You're right... a bad ending.

  2. It probably came out of my mouth a little harsh for what I meant to say. I just mean, it looks out of place on the car. With skulls being so trendy and all with the rat rod craze, it just looks a little "trendy" for such a bitchin orriginal car. But you are right, it's your car now, and someone elses soon and they can simply take it off.

No worries. I did the first one about 1o years ago as a joke to my club members. I showed up at el mirage with it on my roadster and got alot of grief. It has been an ongoing joke. And yes, I kind of wanted to establish this silly car as mine. Not Beppies, not the ebay roadster, not westergard, not ray gaither. The car more than likely will stay with me. I have a semi fresh stocker chassis I am contemplating putting the body on (or not) to make it more road worthy. We shall see.

Thanks for saying that. I hope you do keep it. That would be a much better ending. Now...take it to Bonneville next year for us to check out.:)

$71K reserve not met. A little greedy to set the reserve that high

It sucks for the original owner who held onto it for so long!
Personally, If I bought it that cheap(1K), and resold it for that much(80K), I'd feel like an ass if I didn't send the guy an envelope with a big wad of cash in it!

To tell you the truth I would be shocked if I held out for 50K. I really do not in anyway understand people dropping that kind of cash so they can roll around in an old jalopy and try to look like they are a broke teenager from 50 years ago.

KARMAS a Bi*c*. Hope he would hook up the dude with some money. Scoring is one thing but it looks likes highway robbery. Good luck with the sale.

  16. erm WHAT????!!!!

its an original hot rod from the 40's that Westergard built for f**k sakes

leave it as it is i dont care if it never gets driven again that thing should be put in a museum not thrashed around a muddy field i know its your car and you can do what you want with it but there aint many real hot rods left in the condition yours is in

go buy a brookville body and shove that on your stocker chassis and go drive around the fields with that

sorry rant over just some things bug the hell outta me!!!

It happens in real estate all the time.....what's the big deal. If I had scored it for a grand I'd have done the same thing.

What you guys are saying is sort of like winning the lottery and feeling guilty for only spending $5 and giving some of the money back. Screw that....this is America! Home of the all mighty dollar. Snooze U loose!

what an interesting story. funny everyone giving him shit for cleaning up on the deal. reserve set to high? please, someone is already willing to pay 71k for it, why not 80k? and don't act like you wouldn't if you could.
now as far as the dude saying he's going to put it on a different chassis if he ends up keeping it, that must just be a cruel joke...
    right?

"So if you were looking for a V8 standard car to restore to original this may be a candidate if you were so inclined."

Baaahaaahaaahaaa, if you are so inclined to flush your $70k plus down the toilet.

  22. Hell no, Muttley. I'm not knocking the guy for squeezing every cent out of it. I'm just amazed it's gotten this high...

Sounds like the same corporate CEO greed that's screwed this country so bad!

Think about it if some real estate developer came in and offered your Grandma what her house was worth 40 years ago, and she took it without checking to see how much it was REALLY worth? Piss you off wouldn't it?!

The car was originally bought from an old man who had no clue what the car was worth. If I sold it for 80 grand I'm not saying I'd give the guy half, but I definately give him enough that he could at least get himself a decent used car.
I'm not against anyone making a few bucks on a deal, but 10's of thousands off a clueless old man.....Karma's gonna bite someone big for that!
And it's NOTHING like the lottery!

There is only one way this story could come up with a good ending now. The next owner sinks $150K into getting a real nice Street Rod built out of it ( Brookville body. Posie frame, SBC ect) and it's still remembered as the $1000 dollar E Bay roadster. This pisses him off and he parks it for 10 yrs and dies..... His family who has no interest in it sells it for good money, then puts the big pile of old crap behind the shop on Craigs list for $100... some young kid on the HAMB knows what it is. buys the stuff and builds it back into old Ray's El Mirage roadster.....Ray would be up there looking down laughing his ass off.

To that I'd say, if you sell something without checking to see what it worth first.....shame on you.

damn listen to all these fucking haters! This car was sold on eBay the first time fair and fucking square. There was no rip off, just the buy of a lifetime. everyone with something shitty to say is just plain jealous. I hope it sells for 100k + just to make all the shit talkers feel even worse about their shitty lives lol.

What? Hater? Whatever.........I'm going back to my shitty life.

  28. There is either the love of the old car or the love of the money - I love the old car more than the pile of money. That's the difference between the gold chainer and a real hot rodder in my book. You could see there wasn't any love for the car the way it was being beat around a vacant lot for a goofy uTube video.

  29. Good luck SR....hope it ends over a $100K and sets an Ebay record....loved the YouTube video.....I am happy for your good fortunes!!!!

Is there mention in the thread of how much the current owner paid for it? I think I would base my opinion on that. Regardless, the car should not be abused like it was.
