Well some of my plans changed a bit on my 32 roadster "kit", i was gonna build it on a different 32 chassis that i pick up but decided to put it on my five-window chassis instead, (mainly cause i wanted to go a different route on my five window) that chassis was driving already so it wont take much to get this roadster going once all the sheet metal work is done. so here some progress, i worked on the cowl chrismas eve and got that all work out and had been working on the doors that last couple of weeknights, and saturday i worked on mounting the drivers door and got that done, then late saturday Eric (thrity-two) said he come and help me with the thing sunday, so he came over and we set about drilling a ton of holes and getting the whole back section assembled and then started fitting it to the chassis and doors, we got alot of it done but still have alot to finish, i still have the trunk drip rails to put in and the braces in the quarters to put in too, then i have to finish up the A and B pillar braces too. then i also have to get all the tops of the doors, cowl, quarters all to line up, i got the door gaps decent but they still needs alot of work, it will be alot of futsing around, but anyways, here are some pics. I was gonna do a tech post on assembleing it but then i started looking at it and decided i was gonna have enough thinking to do with out have to snap a million pictures. jeff
I was staring at that body when Bob had it in the trailer and thinking... "Damn... this would be a great start if I had an Original chassis"! Looking great... have you figured out how you're going to super-structure this body? Does this mean you won't be interested in the Model A Roadster doors? Hahaha... I haven't even got my car out of the hanger to work on it yet!!!
Very cool Jeff, that looks great! Did you buy a Brookville body in pieces? I did that with my rpu, and if you got that far in a few nights you're doing better than I did Definitely time consuming to make right, but worth it in the end. People can say what they want about it being a Brookville body blah-blah-blah, but assembling one panel-by-panel gives one a different perspective/appreciation for sure. And it is nice for once to stare at a bunch of rust free tin. I look forward to seeing this come together. The way you work, you will probably be driving it next week (yes, I'm jealous.....) Dan
Yeah, you could have a post, how to build and drive 32 roadster in one week! It is looking good. What are your plans for the coupe?
Well, I took my 32 5 window body off to put my 32 roadster body on....yadda yadda yadda. Quit rubbing it in pal!! PS, looks good, I am SOOOOOOOO jealous! Doc.
Mark, ill still buy the doors, just let me know. Im gonna use some 1x1 tubing for some added inner structures and attatchment points for upholstery. I actually traded a 32 tudor for all the roadster body panels, i got a few parts im missing but for the most part it was all there, i still have to get latches strikers and a dash and a few misc parts. I should be able to get it stiffined up this week, then finish the floors, then hook up the steering and a battery and a seat and it will be almost ready to drive. Im not rubbing it in, if i was i would have said, "yeah, i pulled my 32 five-window body off and put it on my extra chassis and pushed it back out next to my 36 roadster!" JEFF
Great Job. I remember when I put my first one together, I was intimidated but got thru it alright and it turned out great. I actually cheated and had a local body man help finish with a few things I wasn't up to.
no, just lots of measuring, crossmeasuring, some bracing, some eyeballing, some standing back and eyeballing and even some more measuring! jeff
Either way... that should give you the perfect reference point for the build. I heard from others that the aftermarket firewall requires "Tweeking" and that would throw the rest of it off kilter a bit.
Titus, Im doing the same thing, building one from panels. Did you weld the cowl sides to the top or bolt them??? Pete-
Yeah, the cowl was probably the most fun part......im welding mine to the cowl side, what i would suggest doing, if your doors are assembled use them to gauge where the belt line needs to attatch to the cowl sides, mine are a bit higher than they are supose but worked ok, is your cowl top unfinished? jeff
