32 Roadster or 39 Ford Convertible

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by roadstar, Jun 14, 2006.

  1. Well I just kinda felt like posting something tonight, and I have been thinking what would I like better if I have a choice.

I just sold my Roadster to a friend that has wanted the car for about 3 years now and finally talked me out of it. It was time and I'm happy to see Ron get the car and he will take better care of it than I did, Sad but true.....

I have all the parts to put togeather another 32 roadster but I have wanted a 39 Ragtop for a long time as well.

I located a builder 39 that I could do in probably the same amount of time it would take to assemble the roadster, about the same cost in the long run.

I have a 31 RPU that I want to build also so that could fill the roadster void eventually I guess.

I would like to see some pics of 39 convertibles done in a traditional style and get some ideas.

I do like the ride of the bigger car and that has alot to do with wanting the 39 and the fact that I could roll up the windows and put the top up when the weather got bad instead of pretending to be so hard core:D .

I know it sounds like I'm complaining about which supermodel I'm gonna bang tonight:D :D :D

Humor me....... I'm still suffering from my Midlife crises and don't really like Porche's:p

  2. 32 roadster or 39 conv........hmmm......

    I vote 59 El Camino.
    Yes Rudy, I'm still drinkin'........

I would opt for the 39 convertible... you could cruise in comfort, and still have the feeling of the wind blowing through your hair.....sorta:D

  6. Yeah Larry the age thing does come into play when you still want to put some major miles on your hotrod.

  7. HAHAHa that was too funny. Maybe if I drove around with my shirt off:eek:

    you big pussy!!hahaha

Just kidding man, I think whichever you build first, you'll end up with both in the end.

and if you end up building the '39 and want some killer boxing plates or anything else with belled holes, send me a pattern, I can make anything holey!!haha

Ah shit, anyone can build a '32. How many '39 ragtops do you see??;)
....but ya have to put a top on it or ya still get wet.:D

  10. well you've already done the roadster thing. i would do the 39 myself. im 46, and i hate to say it but i kinda like to be a little more comfortable when im out enjoying my rides. not saying stoop low and build cookie cutter street rod, but a nice hot rod or custom 39 would be cool. plus you say you still have the stuff to put together another 32. if you dont like the 39 when you're done it will be super easy to sell. then build another duece. my 2cents.

Good thread. As we all get older, comfort becomes a serious consideration if you intend to do serious miles.

I sold my beloved 27 tudor for more leg room. The 31 1/2 5 window is nice but the 46 tudor is the best riding so far. All had heated seats since I have arthritis. Some have had air, but I still like the feel of the breeze blasting through the ram air scoop and the windows down.

    Been there ... :)

I am a 32 Roadster guy ... and plan on owning mine til I die ... but ...
I really enjoyed the 40 Ford coupe. More than I realized ...

    1) more room
    2) better ride
    3) roll up windows
    4) and overall easier to work on and keep up

This may shock some HAMBers ...
I prefer a 39 Ford convertible over a 40 Ford convertible ( the short top ... just does it for me :) )
    So get the 39 ...

For what there getting for convertibles there's no choice to make here.

Here's some pics, I couldn't remember if the 39 Convertibles had the delux or standard grill so there from 1938 to 1940.

You seem more like a hot rod guy than a custom cruizer.......well, I guess you're just getting too OLD!

It may be good for you to change it up a little.......I really liked your 32 (make it sound as though it passed on..)......

A topless Voodoo Child would be cool!

    Ahhh...black and copper...Hmmmm....

That was my favorite 40 of all.....

But cleaning the mud from all the pretty paint would be a pain!

    :D

Rudy, you know my black '32 sedan. The only thing I would even think of trading for would be a '36-39-40 cabriolet. I love those year roadsters. I say go with the '39. Plenty of room...a nice ride...roll up windows..etc.

  28. I guess he told me:eek:

YOu know me Chuck, won't be too many lawn shows in any car, but I would like something to cruise to Denver or Bonniville with a little more comfort not to mention trunk space:D

Oh you mean this RPU:cool: Finally got it home, couldn't be happier with the body. It's the first car I ever bought sight unseen. But It was from a HAMBer in the HAMB classifieds how could I go wrong.
