If you do the '39, try and keep the wide-fives.

If you do the 39, it needs to have the standard Grille. much better looking IMO, and you see alot less of them.

  5. 39 for sure. You just don't see many good ones around, and with what you did with that 40 coupe, I'm WAY sure you'll do up a killer 39 ragtop. The pics posted above are GREAT examples of 39s, and I think it would suit some long distance driving. Plus, what's a class guy like you doing with an RPU? Sell your 32 stuff to me so you can get the 39 done quicker.

Really, though, you couldn't go wrong with either.

even at my young age(34),i find myself wanting to drive my 39 sedan more than my 32 roadster.those big front seats shure fit me better.

i say build the 39 vert, and get the rpu done later.

Hey, you've already done a killer 32, the envy of many a HAMBer! What would you do to improve it?
There isn't any law against having 2 projects at once. Build the 39 vert for cruising to Bonneville, the LA roadster show, ect and build the RPU for the Jalopy Showdown.
Hell, your just gitting spoiled by riding around in Big Olds.

  13. Having already owned a 39 Ford convertible and now drivin' a 32 roadster I can assure you the bigger car is far more comfortable,,,,I miss the 39 but always wanted the 32,,,,,,,I can't keep them all! HRP

  14. Oh crap that's perfect.... I swear I'm turning into my grandfather.

You have most of the parts to do another Deuce roadster already, and a RPU project, and (I would assume) a decent chunk of $$ from the sale of your car.

This is easy man...... Build a '39. Something you can cruise in comfort. Then on down the road build the other Deuce & RPU.

Deuce Roadster nailed it above - the shorter top on a '39 'vert has it all over the big bulky top on a '40. To my knowledge Ford never offered a '39 Standard 'vert though. That doesn't mean a front sheetmetal group couldn't be swapped over....

    You and me both...

I agree with Flathead Youngin' I always thought of you as a hot rod guy. I know you have the vison to make the 39 cool.

So... give me the 32 stuff and it will make the decision reeeeal easy. Like everyone has said... the 32 is everywhere... 39s... not so much.

(I also think Gus has the worlds largest hard drive filled with car pictures.)

    Rudy,
My $.02. I'd do the 39. Even you won't be able to top the 32 you just sold. And if you build another one it WILLbe compared to the old one. You may not care about the comparision at all but it will happen.

I vote for the 39,do you remember Larry Sneed's 39 convert? Black with a big rake on Halibrands, that car was bitchin'................

  20. I would sell pretty much all my projects for a 39 convert. (Anybody need a 33 5W? ) IMHO, the best soft top Ford ever conceived.

If it's anything like your 40 coupe:cool: , it will set a new standard and I KNOW I'd have to go looking for one.

I'm getting too old and tired for roadster stuff like this weekend's sauna at the HRR. What a wuss.

    Do the 39.

    I'd build that 39 Rudy.

  22. Rudy,

Since you already have the RPU and have had your current fill of Roadster riding go for the 39. If you later think that ou made a mistake well You can always get another of those belly button cars;) If you go the 39 route I have a split bones kit for a fat fender that I could be talked into parting with.....pm if interested.....

I really think that you should build the pickup.
You will have more room for your knitting supplies and your cooking utensils.

Build the '39. Having see pics of your former '40, I know it'd be killer! However, as a '40 owner, I may be prejudiced....(note: these are Deuce Roadster dots...).

Hey Jive Bomber. Lowering the rear, what's the total? and is everything stock back there with modifications to lower it? Is the front just a dropped axle? What did you use? Mordrop, reversed eyes, shackles modified? Thanks
And of course your 39 vert is simply timeless, I bet you have fun driving her around, I know I would. Later

    Ken-

Not to hijack the post, but here's how she got down there with no airbags:
(Its the stock single spring torque tube rearend)

Front: 4" drop axle, drop spindles and Posies spring

Rear: Reverse eye Posies spring, that was then de-arched. Removed "spacer" in the cross member, and 6" long shackles.

Its really fun, and it still rides really nice. The long shackles make it lean a bit, but hard bushings really help.

Have you ever actually driven one?

It's hard to drive one and not like them.

But to answer your question, I'd go with the 39 vert.
