Seeking any thoughts / pictures on a good way to mount a good vintage rear view mirror on a chopped '32 windshield frame.

My rectangular mirror is from the 20's / 30's and must have had a Top/Bottom clamp; like if your thumb was clamped around the top edge of the mirror and your index & middle fingers were wrapped around the bottom edge of the mirror. I have also purchased a chrome clamp (from Vintique) that clamps to the top of the windshield frame. SO...what's the issue, right? Marry the two and be done with it!

Seeking a more clean way to mount the mirror without that bulky Vintique clamp piece. Anyone got any thoughts? Tap screw holes into the top of the windshield chrome frame? (But then would the glass slide UP as far as it would need to?)
    Thanks!

I used a '32 repop mirror and didn't want to drill into the frame. I used double sided trip mount tape and lightly C clamped in position. 8 years and 12k miles later, it is still firmly in place .

I used an industrial strength 2 part adhesive used for mounting fenders, grooved the surfaces of both the area on the windshield frame and back of the mirror stand with air file (for better adhesion), applied adhesive per instructions (wear gloves and maintain proper ventilation), mask off entire area, stick it together and clamp it for 24 hours, cut the heads off the stainless screws and glue them in as well. Easy peasy, lemon squeezey

Sell it and put on a glue on after market stainless mirror.

Ford used a bracket that screwed to the frame at top on the standard roadster...
'32 Deluxe roadsters got the outside mirror only, Standard got the inside mirror only, but the standard (same ws frame as deluxe except not chromed) shows that some screws are fine. I think it used a 3-hole bracket, the rest was just a regular Ford ball mount and 3 finger clamp. There are MANY suitable mounts out there. No idea of exact appearance of a standard one, though.

  7. Bruce,

Here is the standard one from the Sacramento Vintage Ford Parts Catalog. Of course the original was plain steel, not stainless. The curved lip goes over the top of the windshield frame.

I made a bracket similar to the one Charlie showed. I made it smaller and made an adapter to mount a 40 stainless mirror. I use threaded poprivets to attach it to the frame.

On my last several 32 roadsters I used the 35/36 cabriolet/convertible mirror. Attaches with 2 screws.

I kind of like the slightly lower and slinkier looking '32 cabriolet mount in a roadster. This stolen image of a repro cabriolet arm looks to me to be less curvy in the drop than original.

I used the 35/36 because I believe the arm is shorter and my windshields have been chopped.
