Hi all, I recently got a roadster roof for my car, it is a pretty old reproduction one, may be a Le baron Bonney , not sure. I was in the process of chopping it to suit my 3 inch chopped screen, and was drilling the rivets out of the front corner piece, and it cracked. It looks like a cast steel, and don't think I'm going to have much luck repairing it. I looked at Le barons site, but they don't seem to sell this bit separately, would anyone know if it available from any suppliers?

You should be able to weld that, I made my own in stainless which was pretty straight forward.

Having had good luck dealing with Le Baron Bonney, I would give them a call and ask if they would sell you that part.

Thanks guys, Im going to try TIG welding it today,
I hope it works, just looking at the co****ness of the grain structure in the break, Im concerned it aint going to work.I have done loads of TIG welding, but not much on cast material. I hope I can make it work. Ill email leBonney and Westcott if I have no luck.
the ***** is that I have an interstate run in two weeks, and its winter here...so would love to have the top finished!

Pre heat it good and hot. If it were me, I'd chamfer all the edges of the break and build up he weld (braze) with silicon bronze. Should work fine.

    Well I fixed it!
I preheated it, chamfered a bit, and tig welded it with a 316L (stainless)rod,I used this after an hour or so of internet research, and for some reason stainless rod was recomended on a few sites for cast steel. It has stuck well, no cracks in the weld, and didnt even wreck the chrome too much, Im STOKED. Im always wary of cast welding, perhaps I should be a little more confident.Obviously this is a low stressed part, but im confident it is strong.

    Thanks guys.
