  1. My opinion is the same as your's. Around here there is a dude named George Hincapie who organizes bike races where they shut down some of the roads for a day. My wife and I just go see her family in NC those days, not a problem. What puts a rant in me are all the dudes the rest of the year in their fancy little outfits riding 3-5 abreast down a two lane road and you can't get by them and you have to get to work, the speed limit is 50 mph and there they are blocking you:mad:!! This happens far more often than not since the races started here. A friend of mine simply p***ed them despite the double yellow line (horsepower really works) and one of them cell-phoned his tag number into the highway patrol:mad:. Are these dudes so in love with each other that they have to ride side by side to gaze in each other's faces:confused:. WTF

Apologies to those who DON'T do this s**T.

wow. some of the ignorance here is amazing. spandex ***gets?

why all the hate people? what the **** if you have to go around a guy on a bike or it takes you an extra 15 seconds to get where you need to be.

been a cyclist all my life and have never had a crash on the road. I couldn't tell you how many times I have been cut off by someone in a car. people will actually speed up to get ahead and then make a right turn into a driveway right in front of you.

as for running stop signs... I do it all the time if it is safe. you are rolling along at 20 it takes a bit of effort to stop and start up again. if there is any chance of a conflict with a car I will stop. and for those of you that don't know, if I got a ticket on my bike for running a stop sign it would go on my DRIVING RECORD just as if I had run it in my car.

people seem to have a problem with spandex pants. go on a 100 mile bike ride wearing a pair of jeans and and you'll see why we wear them.

I suggest all you bicycle haters think for a second and give the next cyclist you see all the extra room you can afford to give them. treat people as you would like to be treated. we are just people out having fun or maybe even trying to get to work. there is room enough for everyone.

compe***ive cyclists shave thier legs for 2 reasons. it helps cool your legs since the air hits your skin rather than your hairy legs, also if you crash you won't have any hair in your road rash to get infected.

I've never done it.. but those are the reasons.

This is a touchy subject indeed and one of the reasons my last relationship didn't work out. She liked to ride 100+ miles a week on a carbon roadbike at 30mph+, while I liked to cruise my Schwinns on the bike path and at the beach at 10mph-. She obeyed all the traffic laws, but still got stuff thrown at her and eventually run over by a van (she was ok.) A lot of the people she rode with did not obey the traffic laws and were actually written tickets by local law enforcement. Bikes are a valid form of transportation, but they need to be handled responsibly (see avatar.) A lot of road riders are doing distance / endurance training and may also compete in other sports (she was a rower) and find it hard to train properly on a bike path with huge crowds of people (she crashed there too.) Pacelines are fine, but the packs make it hard for everyone on narrow roads. We have lots of trails, paths and bike lanes here, so there is generally enough room for everyone. They don't want you on the sidewalks, so you end up on the roads. It's true some cyclists have a bad at***ude about cars, but the converse is true as well. Someone else here stated that there needs to be more understanding between the two types of vehicles and their operators. I agree with that. There should be information provided to all road users in regard to other types of vehicles. I myself prefer to stay off the roads as getting hit by a car is not on my to do list. I have taken my love for Hot rods and combined it with having a good time on a bicycle to yield the following results (see below.) There's a lot of disagreement in this thread, but it's open dialogue which is a good start to more complete understanding between all parties.

Actually, it is so that when you fall and get road rash, you do not have hair in your scabs so it will heal quicker.

For the record, I don't shave.

For those who think all cyclist are pussies and whimps, consider the guy who did that damage to the 32 - with his body - then refused medical transport. If he's anything like the guys I ride with, he probably got up, fixed his bike, finished the ride while pushing the pace all the way back and then went for beers afterward.

This problem between motorists and bicyclists has been going on since the automobile began taking the roads from the horse drawn vehicles and the bicycles.

i started typing a long response about checking at***ude at the door and actually trying to have an intelligent dialog about this sort of stuff; getting involved locally to make a difference, etc. but i just don't have the patience.

i really admire what you can do with the skills you have learned.

i just wish one of them was learning to be a little less judgmental of things you don't understand...

Man you have NO idea who the **** Jordan is. Second, I lived around Grifith Park for 3 years and saw more Bike vs. Car accidents then I care to remember and having been buddies with one of the Park Rangers there I have to say that the vast majority were as a result of the cyclist not obeying traffic laws or yielding the right of way. According to him and the Police reports.

I have been filpped off, yelled at, had bottles thrown at me and been sprayed down with water (while I was walking with my kids and apparently we blocked their way on a WIDE open road) and the vast majority of cyclists are ***holes. Sorry, but you guys EARN that description every day from what I see with my own eyes.
