Guys, I'm working on my roadster project mocking up the windshield. I'm running a 3" chopped frame, and the look of all the wingnuts is starting to overpower the proportions (well I think anyway). So I was thinking about eliminating the lower pivot that swings the upper stanchions. I'll never move that since I'm running a top. I want to keep the upper pivot so I can still swing the gl***. So, do you know of anyone that happens to make a one piece upper and lower stanchion? I swiped this photo of a roadster off of here sometime ago. It has a one piece stanchion. The photo isn't the best quality, so you can't really zoom in. I'm thinking they might be '33-34 stanchions welded to the '32 lower stanchion mounts. What do you guys think? Other ideas?
You could buy the br*** repo lower ones and braze the SS uppers to them. I would not suggest using ginnie ones due to the cost if even obtainable. I kind of like the joint. It is a blast to fold the windshield flat and blast around. The two wingnuts also gives a place for wind wings. You will learn to appreciate wind wings in wet weather. Turn a corner and get a face full. Mine are ugly and they are easy to remove with the wingnuts.
That's my roadster. The posts are a combo of '32 on the bottom and '36 on the top. They are bronze and were brazed together, filed, sanded and chromed. The windshield is chopped a bunch...I don't remember exactly how much, somewhere in the neighborhood of 4" to 5". I do know that the center of the windshield is "dollar bill height." Keven
