Looking for an opinion from some of you with experience with old ford spindles. Do these spindles look OK to use? The steering arms have also been previously heated and bent.

  2. The bearing surfaces look OK, but you might be worried about the arms. You will likely have to reshape them to make them fit with most axle arrangements. I would magnaflux them after all the reshaping is done.

if you`re wondering about the rough machining on the taper, that`s the way they did it back then. have several pair, and they are all like that.

Although it looks kind of fumny, that S bend I'm the arms is necessary for use with a dropped axle. I bent a set this weekend for my dropped heavy axle and ended up needing that S bend as well...

  6. The answer comes from a sign I saw at the local "In and Out". It said "When in doubt, throw it out". It would be less expensive to throw them out than to worry about them every time you drive the car.

Why do you want to use 32 spindles? If they are a part of your build style then use them and have them tested prior to installing. If you want a better spindle — use the round back 40 style and a bolt on steering arm. Just my thoughts!

  8. One looks like it might have possibly had a punch and hammer "knurl job" at some point. I'd check the bearing tightness before going any farther.
