I drove there, raced and drove home in 1954. Big fun.

    Since we're on the topic...

I'm building one for D/STR. 302, toploader. I haven't found any sort of cage that you can buy that would be legal for SCTA. Bolt in cages are used, such as the Rolling Bones roadster. I had some digital pics of them someplace. I think they are in here, or landracing.com. I would recommend going in there and reading. (To help you out, you can just look up my stupid newb questions haha).

AFTER you have bought and read the rulebook about 3 times, then ask questions. There are a LOT of safety items for SCTA that you don't think about until you go to build the car. Its smarter to have the knowledge in your head BEFORE you start building, (I did the opposite).

FYI, I also bumped the SCTA rules-vs-NHRA rules for exact specifications on things like the "THICK STEEL" that is used to shield the fuel line from flywheel chunks if it blows. NHRA spells it out. Also, firewall thickness/material, Tig weld-vs-mig, etc etc. READ READ READ!!!!

By the way, anybody have any pics on how to strengthen a chassis for, say, 175mph? I'm not shooting for 200 for a few years down the road. I just wanna have fun without breaking the bank. Later JL

Yeah, the "other fellow". Vintage Air owner/operator not only drove to-and-from, turned a two-way time of 200 MPH, but he did it with the AIR COND. ON!!!
I was a firm installer of his systems from then on.

I wish a site existed with a picture of the record holder cars. I wish they would snap pics of the cars that make records. I have searched everywhere.

Can't be said enough.Get a CURRENT rule book.In the last year the criteria got bumped up even higher.
I think a little slack may have been cut last year but that was it.

    BTW,its your ass at stake.
Good idea if you can find another current car and check it out.

Dick Scritchfield ran 168 in the early 70's, held the record for Street Roadster class for a few years before the record was broken, he ran the '32 hiboy to Tulsa Nats in 1973 with the Bonneville seals still in place on the motor & running 2.65 gears in the quick change. We followed him in our '32, at 65 mph, Scritch's motor was just "Loafing"----He had to slip the clutch a lot at every town we came to!!!!
