32 stuff out of hand-what in Tarnation is going ON?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by hillbillydeluxe, May 30, 2006.

  1. It's been said before that ANYTHING with those sacred little numbers "32" is getting way way way out of hand. I mean, look at these two little nuggets from "the auction site" and tell me (please) that I'm out of my head. $1400 for a grille shell? Over 2 GRAND for four headlights? What the Sam Hill is going ON here? These numbers are so damn high, I can't even wager to guess why they're ending at such high numbers.

I know these are eB@y prices, BTW. Gulp

  2. specialty market. Seems like there are a lot of people willing to shell out that kind of money for this old stuff. As we all know, as long as there is someone willing to pay that ridiculous price....
As far as that grille shell goes, thats just a joke, imho. he even wants 100.00 to ship it- so I guess the thing weighs about, what, 75 lbs ????

"Stored carefully in my fathers garage" oooooh, bfd.
The good news is that eventually, like every other thing, the bottom will start to fall away on this market. This is just crazy.

  3. What happens when the market is flooded with all the long hoarded items ??...
Please clear all deuce items from your possesion ..
    HELP LOWER PRICES ..
    DO YOUR PART
    FEEL BETTER NOW ...
    I DID NOT THINK SO
The guys selling now will SOON be grumping they should have waited for the BIG MONEY!!

Some say I spent too much on my own sedan but I don't need much original 32 parts to finish it..

I have stopped cruising epay lately cuz it hurts to see this ever changing $$$$$ going higher...

What would a repo grille & shell sell for? $750? Aren't original parts worth twice that - even if they did need a little work? Would be to me.

As for the lights, good parts bring good $$. When will you find another 2 sets that nice?

For some people $$ is no object. They buy what they want whatever it costs. I can't fault them for that. I'd do it too, if I could.

yes i do own a 32 and F 32 fords and those who perpetuate the rediculous pricing. LONG LIVE THE MODEL A

  6. The cheapest 32 item I bought is the new Rodders Journal. I might just buy another to hoard, then I can be considerd in the "club".

I really thought with the new original style repop grill shell, that the prices would come back down. Are people actually putting these $1,200 shells on their cars? Or do they hang them on the wall and telling their Deuce buddies how great of a deal they got on their 10th shell?
I have gotten some great stuff off of ebay, but I have also gotten tired of what it has done to prices everywhere else. All I hear at swap meets now is "I could get/seen it for $__________ on Ebay..."

Nobody is ever going to convince me that a '32 is any cooler than a Model A.

    The headlights were 3W-Larry's :)
I am GLAD he got the ca$h ... maybe he will finish his super cool 32 3W with the dough ...

1932 Ford stuff has always been TWICE the price of other Ford stuff ...
It is more rare ... 10 Model A's made ... for every 1 Deuce made ...
A better car originally than a Model A and came with the V8.

Been like this since I started messing with Cars ... and I do not see it slacking up anytime soon ... In 1982, when the Deuce was 50 ... the " in the know crowd " said ... Deuces and their prices cannot last and will go bust within the next 10 to 15 years ... :p Yeah right ...

They went BUST alright ... busted right thru the TOP $$$

Model A's look more in proportion to me than 32's. 32's are fat. Why did Ford only make the body style one year? Probably 'cause it was considered ugly at the time.

    Me neither!:D

Nobody will try to convince you.

Some people agree with you already.
And the people that dont, do not want you to go looking for one as well...

I'm just glad I've got mine.

The prices dont matter to me, cause I dont need another one and I'm not selling the one I have.
They can go bust or go through the roof...makes no difference to me.

I've got the car I want, and I was able to come up with the money ( just...:D )when I found it

thats exactly what happens to orig shells...instead of having the gold hanging around their necks they show it off by hanging it on the wall. same old story. also the same guys who wouldnt think twice about buying a brookville body but wouldnt be caught dead with a repop shell on their so called traditional hotrod. my duece sits in the garage while i run the av8's wheels off way more fun for a lot less $$$$

LOOKS ... are someones opinion ... I said better ... like the workings and mechanics of the cars ...
Most any diehard Model A restorer will say that the 1932 Ford was a better car ... and has a more solid feel ...

    1) longer wheelbase
    2) fuel pump
    3) 10 more HP for the 4 cylinder
    4) 65 Hp in a V8
    5) stronger wheels
    6) oil pump

1932 was the lowest year of Ford production ... from the Model A to WWII. 1932 was the worse year for the US depression. Times were SO BAD ... the government did not even produce all the coins in 1932 ... ( no nickels or dimes ) ... Not all the currentancy either ...

Ford did NOT make 1932 Fords for for the entine 12 month period ... like usual. Chevrolet actually SOLD MORE 1932 Chevrolets than Fords.

I bought a brookville repop shell. Who cares?? You know how many more parts I scored with that cash, rather than blow it on a real deuce shell? I'm into vintage guitars too, and it's the same story. People with more money than brains will do this to us every time......

Fact of the matter is, regardless of if you like model A's or 32's, the prices for some, if not most of the 32 stuff has deffinately gone wild.
Each of us has our own oppinion of what looks good and what style we like.. Some it's an A, some a 32 and others maybe a gremlin :D..

For some reason, the 32 seems to have become the one that's demanding some crazy figures.
If the table's were turned, and A stuff was selling like this, there would be people saying the same thing about them..
It's really no different than anything else in this overpriced world we live in..
Except many of us are in tune to what thing's are selling for in the 'rod world and because of that and our interest's in hot rods in general, we see that these have taken off to levels that we (or I) just can't understand...

How about those people who spend 20,000 on a Rolex watch when the Walmart one you bought for 5 bux works the same..
It's nut's and sucks for those who just love the car's and have been priced out of the game..for now..maybe someday thing's will change..
    but there's no rationalizing it..

uhhhh...yep. savin them for a future project? BTW your right stock A vs stock 32 the deuce is a much better car. and i dont begrudge guys for paying big dough for something they gotta have or to pay for someone to build one for them. id love to have a 39 zephyr but family comes before toys. the haves and havenots will never change and ive got some nice stuff but no need to flaunt it. that vic is sharp:)

I am LUCKY that I have the two 32's I have. I have owned the roadster almost 30 years and saw it for the first time in 1969.

    Yep...

Thats how I feel about mine.

Between the ones we lost to Rust, Crashes on the street, Oval Tracks, LSR and Dragracing, The scrapmetal drives for WWII, etc...

And the fact that both the Restorers and Hot Rodders are looking for them, I never thought I'd find one that I could afford.

Very, very lucky...Its the Car I've dreamed off since I was a kid.

  25. It seems to me that the pure irony lies in the fact that so many things are "traditional this, traditional that" "it has to be traditional"

Henry's original idea was to provide affordable transportation to WORKING people. - thats traditional. Or is it?

That pic above with those shells hanging on the wall is sickening.

    BLING BLING.

I ALWAYS wanted to build a 32 Roadster Highboy. With the prices where they are in both steel AND glass, I decided to build my current 26 T Roadster. It's only money;...money I don't have, and if I did, wouldn't spend on most of the outrageously over-priced parts. That's me. So be it.

Larry's Guide headlights were NOS in the original boxes! Wow. That's very cool.

I bought a used set of Guide headlights at Hershey about 3 years ago for $13.

I talked the guy down from $20.

this is a salvage, after we pulled the entire thing apart... the body was very clean aside from the obvious, all "original henry ford" tin... its worth saving.
