    Hi all

Now that im a fair way into this ch***is thought id give you all a look.
its a 32 p***enger ch***is that is RHD and ***umed to be an australian delivered ch***is. it came with all crossmembers, but ive only reused the rear one, threw the perfect Kmember in the trash. :D for those with a sarcasm defficiency ,not really ...

Im building this truck using as much running gear and parts from a 39 mercury sedan i got, I guess the 'theme' is a hotrodder in around 1950 hopped up his old truck using the 39 merc that his dumb kid brother rolled into a ditch.. so itll have the 99A merc motor, brakes, rearend, steering, pedals, wheels and merc caps, and lots of other little bits off the big ol merc fourdoor.[IMG]
I just got a plasma so it got a workout on this ch***is, the crossmember is kinda patterend after a 35-40 one, i was going to use the merc one, but it ended up being easier to start again from scratch. holes are belled with dies i had made up last year.[IMG]

the gearbox/rear bones mount was todays project..i think it came out great.

The rear has been converted to open drive, using toy%#$a components, as im using a 5 speed overdrive supra gearbox in this truck, made the driveshaft a straight swap in.I reinforced the 36 bones a la jimmy whites style, and will run a toque rod from the top of the diff to the front mount point as well.[IMG]

the front end uses all old style components, greasable shackles and 34 tierod ends (i love these things!) and i drilled the 39 brakes too.[IMG]

anyway the thing should have the engine mounted tommorrow, then thats it for a while as i move shop in a couple of weeks. just wanted to get it rolling for an easy move.

    hotrods are fun eh?

Lowsquire....I saved the photo of your ******/wishbone mount on my computer and I'm gonna steal your idea for my 34 ch***is. As you can see...mine's a little rude.

Heres the rear bone and kick up. C notched, and tall plates to attach diff to bones, helps lower it with a stock 32 rear crossmember (which i widened thru the centre for the 39 spring pack.) Im going to fill the heads of the mushroom head bolts in the crossmembers to look like rivets.if you look closely there is a big fishplate that goes inside right across to the crossmember, this is to replicate the doubler that Ford put in 32 pick up frames,to strengthen the rear kick.[IMG]

  8. Sweet as always, any more details on your open drive conversion?

    Cheers,

    hey drewfus!
basically had the 39 merc pinion cut down and resplined to take a corona(?) slip on yoke, then a 15/16th thread for a big nut. you can only do it this way on the pinions that DONT have the six spline connector at the back end, they are actually a 6 foot long pinion! the splines on a "short " pinion are no good for this conversion, and i never liked the conversions using the ford coupler,to much freeplay, and no positive locking apart from a grub screw type thing..yuck.

  11. Great work Ben, the devil is in the detail and as usual you execute that quite well.

Where's the new workshop going to be? Roughly the same area?

Details take time. It will be a shame to put a body on it and cover it up. I'm guessing you have a few hours in that pedal ***embly also. I'd be interested in any details on that.

You've done such a good job making it all look like Henry did it that most people won't "get it".

Very nice work!! I especially like your trans/radius rod mount. Very well thought-out. Love it.

Dude, this looks awesome! Top notch for sure. Got any pics of the rear crossmember mods? I'd like to run a non-swept spring in my new '34 pickup project.

Beautiful work. Please keep us updated as you progress.

  23. Still going to do the Saturday Morning thing? A few of the boys were talking border p***es and a trip in.

Naaah it wouldn't be detail if I was in it, it'd be more of an overview, my bulk don't allow fine detail :D :D

Will be a great rolling advert for the shop when finished.

    Heres the latest.. engine mounts.
The rivets are fake, just 1/8 alloy rivets, i made a bucking tool and put them in before the mounts were tacked on. Havent finished welding them. Ill wait till ch***is is apart again, its a bit tight to get the tig torch in there with motor in.
They are ***ymetric as the steering mount plate interferes on the drivers side.

I wanted something original looking, like to think I achieved that in a way.
