I would finish your car the way you originaly planned and not let a good find set you off track. The lid is pretty cool as is. Sell it and put the profits into the car.

    Best of luck

  2. Clear it and paint the rest of the car to match.

    OR

Hang it on the wall and get a new trunk lid.

    Please don't distroy history!

I go along with many of the other comments. It would be a great piece of wall art.Save some of the history of Hot Rodding . Hang it up and find another one for your car.

carefully tape over the lettering, paint the lid to match the car unmask tape.
I have the same dilemma on my COE doors,I want to paint the dam thing but I want to keep the door lettering,so I might tape over it.
I might bet kicked in the balls for this but::
wrap the lid with vinyl to match the rest of the car and tat way the original paint is underneath and you can peel the vinyl when you are sick of it.
Or wrap it in vinyl and cut around the lettering, peel off to show the lettering

Paint it. Unless it has some significant history why waste a perfectly good decklid and hang it on the wall?

I have an original deck lid painted in the 60's with cracked flaked blue paint that's in incredible condition for my '32. And maybe it had some history maybe it didn't. One thing that I know is I don't have the scratch to be buying another so this one will eventually get stripped and repainted to fit the car.

The wife just told me her vote should count the most. She says HANG IT.

I asked, "you got a cool grand laying around for replacement?" She laughed and said yes. Guess I'm in the market for another decklid...

I say put it on the wall, or find a museum/collector/shop to sell it to. It'd be a shame to see it get painted over.

Sorry to bring up this old post!...But I just now found it while looking for something else......I can not believe that you bought that deck lid, and would even consider painting over it!!.....Honestly the thought of doing something like that makes me sick to my stomach!!.....I have the windshield frame, and I wanted that deck lid so F**king bad it is not even funny!!.....But you seen it before I did, And bought it fair and square. I have a very nice original deck lid I would gladly trade you and prolly pay diffrence, If all you want is a good decklid......Painting over that would be like painting over the "mona lisa" or any other great artwork that can not be replaced....And as for the ones voting for you to strip it and paint over it....I am at a total loss for words!....I mean you gotta be Joking!!.......Common dude!!...Do the right thing If you do not appericate that piece of hot rod history, Sell it to someone who does!!!.......I may be talking out my *** here, I really don't know as it is late and I have had a few, But I would love to own that, It would Go right on my car and I would paint the rest to match, Hell I would dig and dig until I found out every piece of history on the original car, I tried to find out what I could from the guy who had the stuff, But it belonged to his cousin and they did not seem to know much about it...Oh well, Anyway, It is yours do with it what you want....But I will say this for sure...Anyone with a true love for hot rods, and hot rod history, A thought like that should never even cross their mind. I mean it would be like ****ting where you sleep...Or beating up your grandmother...No pun intended......Just my 2 cents

Oh by the way my vote is sell it to me...LOL
