Does anyone have pics of a 32 Ford (preferably a 5 window) with a suicide front end? I searched it but didn't come up with much. Mine is already gonna be channeled just was wondering what it would look like, something a little different. Thanks

Technically the Doane Spencer roadster and the Rolling bone cars are suicide front suspended,.... Your not talking about suicide steering are you ????

This was Rick Cowell's Deuce 3/W built in the 70's with a clapped out body and a custom rectangle tube frame,.... it had suicide steering,... didn't corner really well,.. but Rick drove the wheels off it,.... Love the Yosemite Sam Flames. Wonder what ever happened to it ?

Side/traditional steering is sometimes called (suicide steering) Why, I don't know.

There are a couple of good threads on the Rolling Bones cars showing good chassis pics.

Yes Virginia there is a Santa Claus !,.... and Suicide steering,.... Tie rod out front is called "Suicide Steering" Not only very difficult to achieve true ackerman,... but if you tap anything with that tie-rod your toe-in is KAPUT,... And I never herd of Drag Link steering called suicide steering.

I'm talking about a suicide front end, as in axle out in front of the spring. Kinda like the one on my 26, but with a dropped i-beam instead of a tube axle.

Cross steer VS Suicide steer Here is one thread where it is refered to as (suicide steer). I have heard others refer to it as such also. While the tie rod is part of the steering, i would say the actual steering is done by the box whatever it's location and the rod coming from it. I guess we are all right.

Sense there is no actual Technical definition or reference to the term "suicide steering" I guess we will all have to go with what we understood it to mean several decades ago when we all first heard the term....... With that said, It seems it was established the OP is talking about a suicide front suspension and not suicide steering,.... so it's kind of a moot point and a discussion for another thread,.....

And BTW,..... Really enjoy your fab work,.... you have some really good skills.

Wow, that should keep me busy for awhile with 92 pages!
Thought I might catch some flak for wanting to do this, but I would say the Spencer roadster, rolling bones, and the avenger are some pretty heavy hitters in the deuce world. Maybe it's not such a bad idea after all. Here is another pic I found somewhere on the H.A.M.B and saved. Thanks to everyone, and I'm still looking for more pics if anybody has some.

huh,, a question about "suicide" front end turned into 'spring behind axle' and then went to suicide steering (what ever the fuck that is...)..jeez

I don't know where suicide steering came from. I wanted pics of spring behind axle setups which I have always heard referred to as a suicide front end.

i guess i look at things differently as i put 'suicide front end' (front end push out wheelbase with a suicide perch, most the time spring OVER axle ,,that's why its called sucide, it the shitty pearch breaks, the car does a nose dive and flips over ) ...in a different catagory as a Doane Spencer/Rolling bones spring behind axle (under crosmember),, just my opinion...

  15. This really is funny.... Suicide front ends, Suicide Steering and now Rolling bones style front end. Rolling bones style was derived from the Doane Spencer Roadster & now somehow this is referred to as a Suicide front end? weird!

These "suicide suspension" threads always turn up comments bout the car digging in a flipping off the road... Seems kinda "the sky is falling!" to me. If you're a competent fabricator, I see no reason why a suicide style front suspension can't be built to be a perfectly safe setup. I mount the shocks to bottom out and act as a stop before the frame plows pavement. On a spencer/bones style front end, just construct your radiator mounts sturdy enough, if anything spring-related breaks it'll just lay the frame/rad mount down on the axle.

In the "day" we called them "bobbed" front ends. My 31 coupe has one.

Yep and if you saw some of the "welding" on some of those old rigs especially the circle burners you would know why. I've seen a few of them that looked like the welder didn't make it clear though the first week of ag shop welding class.

What do you expect? New terms/names in a Traditional web site. Most are older & not hip to, nor care for trends.

By the way, Traditional is the lastest trand :p:D:)

Sorry about the earlier thread derail, but here is another thought. Since 32 pics with spring behind...i'm sure there are a few here...are scarce just do a search for model A's. There are hundreds of model A coupe pics on here with 32 rails and grille, the front setup will look the same, just a different body...just a thought.

Didn't realize suicide front end was a new term/trend. I'm not an old timer yet, but I'm no spring chicken either in my 40's and I've heard that term used for as long as I can remember?!?!?

Here are a couple chassis shots of The Doane Spencer Roadster.Hope this helps.Looked through my pic's for a channelled 32 5 window's and really didn't see any. There could be some in my pic's but from the angle of the pic's,I couldn't tell if spring over or behind.
