Technical 32 wheels/7.50x18 tires

I have done a lot of searching on here and wanted to ask a question about a wheel and tire setup, I have a 30 tudor and it is fenderless with 6.00x16 tires all the way around and it is the stock banger motor with a police head on it...I was looking to run the 6.00 on the front and then a set of 7.00x16 or 750x16 in the rear for the look, but I ran across 2 real nice 32 wheels with 7.50x18 tires on them and have thought about maybe giving them a try.
My question is...will they dwarf the back of the car being nearly 33 inches in diameter and a little to much for the stock motor and police head to try and turn...or to accelerate when shifting?
Thinking they may look out of place or give it a strange look along with adding extra stress or strain on the motor and clutch?
Looking for all comments, good bad or indifferent...let em fly!

 

I've done several highboy 32's with 18 inch rears. My favorite combination is 500-16's (25 inches tall) on the front and 700-18's (31,50 tall) on the rear. The 18's will work on stock 32 wheels with a tube. I've had both pairs of the 32 wires I used widened to about 5 inches by Bruce"s Rod Shop in Texas. That was expensive but since that a few suggestions for getting them widened have surfaced here on the HAMB. If I do another pair I'll explore alternatives. $1200 including shipping is getting steep for my budget.

 

These are already mounted on the wheels so good to go there, just wondering if they will be alot for the banger with the police head to turn and if they will look to big on the setup I have?
From what I have read and the measurements, I believe it will raise the rear stance of the car about 2.5 inches, but also fill in a little of the wheel opening the same amount also...
If I bought them they would get painted the green color the same as the others, just dont want them too be the main focal point and taking away from the rest of the car because of the size they are.

 

I guess my other question is, would this wheel and tire choice for the rear fall into the traditional look from back in the day that i am trying to aim for...or would it be just a weird combination over all and the look?
Probably not alot of pictures with this setup but any pictures would be appreciated if anyone has anything close.

 

32 roadster we did last winter with 35 Ford 16 inch wires and 500-16 Excelsior's front and widened 32 Ford wires and 700-18 Excelsior's on the back. Have done this combination on a couple other 32 Ford highboys.

 

Were you running the stock 32 motor with that wheel and tire setup?

My 34 has 18's all-round. I'm running 8.20-18 firestones on the back.

 

Well got them home and on the car to test fit...now to paint them the same green!

Definitely better looking than the previous tires on rear. Has a nice rubber rake now.

I have a quick question...
When putting the 32 wheels on a stock Model A hub, the center hub of the wheel seems to **** up against the drum because the center hub on the wheels are not as big as the 35 wheels which go over the drum...is it recommended to run a 1/8" spacer ring for a good seat for the wheel?
It seems to fit snug and I can't get anything between the wheel and mounting surface, but also do not want to ruin the rims when I snug them down...anyone have any tricks or should I just order the spacer rings to be safe?

 

I always use the wheel to drum spacer sold by Boling Bros.when installing early Ford wires to early Ford drums.

 

'32 wheels will fit stock Model A drums exactly like Model A '28-'31, 1932, '33-'34 and '35 Ford wire wheels.
Run the 18's. 6.00 fronts look too big with other 16" tires but look great with those 18" tires! Hyd drums need the spacer when running wires.

BTW, '28-'29 ran 21" wheels and tires and are taller than '30-'31 wheels and tires and 6.00x16 tires are shorter than stock '30-'31 tires! '28-'31 all ran same rear axle ratio 3.78 so the 7'50x18 tires are much better all around in my opinion!

Thank you for the knowledge and input on this...have never had 32 wheels before and just want to be sure and run them the right way and have it safe so the wheels dont get messed up when snuggling them up or tweaking them.

 

Just an update, wheels are painted and spacers on order. Will probably leave the 600x16 on front for now, but will be looking for 5.00 or 5.50x16 in the future.

 

looks great. What size are you running in front? Did you widen the rear wheels?

 

When fenderless..having the tire/rim combination match the arc on the body is a real + for me.

 

Looks like you are running stock mechanical brakes? If so, NO spacers or adapters on those. Only used with hydraulic brakes and wire wheels.

Yes running mechanical and they seem to seat just fine...but have read and heard mixed things on the spacers and no spacers.

 

The car originally had 600x16 on the rear also, so I think the 7.50x18 fill it pretty well. I know I could probably pull 2 leaves in the rear, but I do like the stance it currently has.
