Hey guys, I would need some advice with tuning my carbs to work fine with the engine. Now it run to rich! On idle it´s smoking, and when you press the throttle to bottom it doesn´t respond very well. I have a offenhauser intake with three 8ba 94 carbs . I tried to run it with a progressive linkage, but some of cylinders where running very lean. So now I´m back with all the carbs working again. So I would be thankfull if someone could give me any numbers of what size jets and power valves that I could try. I need to order something but I don´t know what
There have been whole books written and thousands of threads/posts made on how to set up multiple carbs. Use the search feature to get started. If you order parts first and experiment, you will spend a lot of money and get poor results. From what you say, it sounds like all carbs are the same. If you run all 3 at once, maybe OK. With progressive linkage, end 2 carbs don't use idle circuits. As a start, block off end carrbs and get it to run on the middle carb. Holleys run best with low fuel pressure-1.5 to 2.5 pounds. If you are using the stock fuel pump, your pressure is too high. Make sure your tune up is correct. Read first, spend later. Good luck.
Running 3 "8BA" carbs on a 322 with progressive linkage is going to be difficult to impossible. Using solid linkage, it should be possible; although maybe not the choice some would make. The article referenced below was for 3 1-barrels on a 6 cylinder; but the synchonization portion of the article is certainly applicable to your setup. The biggest difference is 2 idle mixture control screws per carb rather than just one: http://www.thecarburetorshop.com/Triple1barrels.htm Don't expect it to run as well as the factory 4-barrel, but it should cruise OK; and the looks are great. Jon.
If you rebuilt the 94s did you get the correct power valves? the ones that usually come with the kits are wrong. the hole for the fuel to go through should be a small round one not the rectangle shaped one that go in the later Holleys. If you have the wrong one fuel will just dump through the vacuum passage. Also be sure your bowel bottom is flat these things have a warping problem.
