Where should the engine ground be at and where is the best place to ground the negative side of the battery. This is in a 56 oldsmobile by the way?

Regardless of brand, I like to run the negative cable from the battery directly to one of the bolts that holds the starter to the block. That way you have a perfect connection and get full cranking amps. Then run a braided ground strap from the engine or transmission to the frame, and smaller braided ones from the frame to the body. That way everything has a good ground.

I think it originally had a head bolt with a stud for attaching the ground cable but its been a few years since I last owned one, where ever you but it do a body to motor ground like mentioned before.
