Hello My 324 olds rocker arms have some hobbing on the pushrod face. Can these be ground by hand to remove the hobbing following the original contour? This is a street engine Kubbee
If you have moderate skills with hand shaping metal? Then yes. If you want them contour ground, any auto machine shop can do it. The stock ones are not adjustable, so if you take metal away there, and also have heavy wear on the rocker shafts, you may have lash noise.
by the time the tips are worn the shafts should also be checked, I have Delta Camshaft clean my assemblies up, fast turn around, reasonable prices and familiar with all types of valvetrains
Get new rockers and if the shafts are usable have them turned and hard chromed to new rocker arm specs.
then there is Rocker Arms Unlimited in CA. Gary seems to know his stuff. I got some new shafts from him. Gives you another source anyways. I would examine the pushrod end of the rockers for unusual wear as well.
Thanks for the info, I did look ar rocker arms unlimited and will call them on Monday. This is a rebuild and I will need custom length push rods as I am ytaking material off the heads and block. I am just disassembling the rocker shafts tonight an this was the first thing I came across. I will be checking the shafts and bushings. So you feel that the hard chrome approach is a good idea on the shaft and have them rebuild instead of rebushing?
Or....Ive got new stock rocker and shaft assemblies.....as well as anything else youll need for your rebuild on that Olds
Buy new shafts. To pre-grind, hard chrome and finish grind them will be very expensive compared to buying new ones. Goatroaper is very knowledgeable and the best source for early Olds stuff.
I dont have a printed sheet..... there isnt anything stock part or speed part that we dont have.....you can go as far as build a brand new early Olds engine and not use anything that came from GM ....same as you would a Chevy. contact through my site with a wish list and Ill price it back...Thanks
