Hot Rods 327 engine rpm advice needed

  1. You tell him you freakin Mountain William you. :)

here's the deal most of us don't understand why not even physicists but real world application often trumps slide rule any day. The guys who really know that stuff claim that to go 200 in a roadster you got to make 700 hp min. Never the less a few have made it into the 2 club with less that 700. Go figure.

2500 rpm at 70 MPH and a 4:11 not to my liking. Surprised the RPM's are that low. Back in the day 4:11 and 4:56 rear's were the thing. Then again we never went anywhere. There were no car shows five hours away. Not to mention driving cross country like the OP plans to do.
Love the Tremec five speed, 355 SBC with TPI in my 63 BelAir at 75 MPH and in overdrive the RPM's drop to 1900. That to me is what I'm comfortable with on a long haul.

Kool car, no worries on RPM. Just a suggestion that die hards never want to hear if those are bias ply tires, you might want to buy a set of radials that look like old style tires, it will make your drive ALOT more enjoyable. Free advice and just my opinion.

It will be fine. They will run ALL DAY LONG at higher rpm's than that. I've run my 327 with a 471 blower and a 3.42 final drive at 85 MPH for hours at a time only stopping for gas on several occasions.

In my youth, the cars youth and its engines youth we ran 5.14 gears everywhere...45 mph was like 2750 rpm, 60 mph was like 3657..40 years ago, car is still with me, engine is still running in the car; and me, well I'v aged gracefully..o_O. If my joints had zerk fittings I'd have it made..
