has anyone ever cut the side mt bosses off of an early 327 sm journal mtr--hope they are cast hevily onder the bosses like earlier (57) block but not sure--it's a 62 340HP short blk and I don't want to find water-want it to looks like a 57 block

    THX in advance

  2. Racers machine them off sometimes to save weight. Sounds insignificant. But I have been told that careful t******* can add up.

If you have the "freeze plugs" out you can check the back side with a mechanic's mirror.

Or you can hit the side of a scab block with a sledge hammer and take a look that way.

I don't think you can eliminate all traces of the side mount unless you grind the block.

Just get a 283 block? WTH. Why mess up a good 340 hp block?
