hello , having a go at putting a chev 327 engine. Just got it n appears to be a 1962 with 2 barrel carb, has what looks like a govener on the carb n like big byp*** hose from themostat housing cast # on block 3892657 stamped # on eng pad frt of motor V032 (thats all) cly heads no 3932454 has old road draft tube this was a large truck eng ? pistons have a slight relief with 2 cut outs for valves 2 bolt main the gov is a large diaphram cove bolted to carb, paid 80.00 maybe some could verfy eng size... someone had wriiten with a marker 66-283 on the heads like they were gottn somewhere as replacements
The block is a 1967 327...could have a 283 crank ending up at about 302 inches. Intake is big truck with a governor as you stated. I've never heard of those heads before..internet says 307..other says 350. Anyway looks like an open chamber with 1.94 possibly. If the motor turns and isn't already .060 over...and isn't cracked..its a great deal.
thanks, just got it unloaded n one head off today will ck it out. Came from a barn from some older hotrod guy. I may see if he has anything else there. I know the crank does not look like any of my old 350 cranks ie not cast iron Ill see what else i can find
327 small journal with my vernial calip i get exactly 4.0 at top of bore not touched (ridge) have no flywheel difficult to ck stroke also am lubing everything as it sat a while thanks also will my turbo 350 trans bolt up need correct flywheel
A 62 327 2 barrel would have been in a truck for sure. No 2 barrels were used in cars in its first year of production.
I recall seeing a stock '62 Impala in the '70s with a 327 2 bbl , but Canadian dealerships did a lot of weird stuff if the customer asked them to
The 657 casting was used in 67-68. It’s a 4” bore block, and we’re used with 327 & 350. 327’s we’re machined as a small journal & 350’s machined as large journal. It’s the only casting I know of which they machined for slither crank.
