From what I see i would say 5-6,000 easy. I turned down one for $3500 in about that kind of shape (basically complete). Went back the next day after thinking about it and it was gone. Around here '32's and '33-'34's seem to demand about the same money.
THAT WAS 20 YEARS AGO AND i'M STILL KICKING MYSELF FOR LETTING IT GO.

Paid $3500 for my body and frame 15 years ago. No fenders, no engine or trans, body was not pitted, but floor was bad. I didn't think it was a steal by any means, but damn glad to have found it.......I'd absolutely beg, borrow or steal to get 4-5K to try to buy this car!!!!!!!!!! Just get it...

some guys have all the luck!

  11. I think the answer is to ask the guy, "okay, you've turned down three, how much would make you happy, $4000? $5000?" and keep going up until he shakes his head yes. If it's too much, it's too much. But with the current patina fad, if you put the doors and stuff on, rounded up a used running flatty and went through the brakes, you might have a car that would sell for abseloutely stupid money, for not much more than the initial investment.

yeah..a car like that is an investment..you might have to put out some change up front...but you won't be sorry when you get it home in your garage. You just don't see them like that anymore. If it's complete you might want to sell the Merc and get it! lol....or not..that merc is nice!

Good luck and keep us posted. Go get that sum bitch

Make him the highest offer you can, in increments. If you go past your point find a GOOD buddy and put him onto it. He may allow you to make payments whilst he holds it too...Good luck, I love seeing the guys who find these end up with them

  17. Rule #1: Never, never, never keep making offers.
Rule #2: Refer to rule #1
He is playing games with you and anyone else that will come over and entertain him.
The dad of my best friend taught me a lesson 40 years ago. If a person has something for sale, THEY set the price. If you think it's cheep, buy it. If you think it's fair, buy it. If you think it's high, make an honest offer. If he doesn't accept it, it's his turn to put a number on the table. You say nothing until the seller puts out a second number.
Anything other than the above system is just waisting your time, and giving the bastard cheep entertainment. It very well may be that he has no intention of selling it. When it's gone, so are the visitors who keep him entertained.

    Hey Rich Venza,
    That is great advice!
    Masdaslam,
I have a 34 5 window. I'm not good on values but, I can tell you how complete it is and help you with 34 info, etc.
PM me and we can talk by phone. I type too slow...

  19. I found this 39 Ford coupe about 6 years ago. It sat in a driveway and I stopped to see if ti was for sale. "No" was the answer I got. After talking to other people in town I learned that people have been trying to get that car for as long as I have been alive. Last year I stopped by as I would every now and again, and the man who owned it said he was thinking of selling it. I told him I would like to buy it, and asked what he wanted. He said he didn't know, and turned 2,000 down a few days earlier, because he felt that the guy was trying to low ball him. I never mentioned a price, and it took a couple days, but finally got it for 4K. The point to this story is never try to low ball a guy if it's something valuable and your really serious on it...you may get the guy pissed and he won't want to sell it. I would kill for that car and I know others tons of others on here would too, so make a move FAST!!!!

We are going to try to make an offer on it.I'll keep you all updated. Thanks for all of the advice guys.

  22. Just remember. Banks are in the business to lend money. I paid 15k for mine and sold off all the fenders and misc. stuff I was not gonna use. Anything under 10K would be a deal. Don't snooze on this one.

  23. I agree with the $10K value, and that's on the low side. Just look for the thread on the '32 5W in Delft, MN that went for $26.5K, a nicer car but still a lot more money. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=287301

Get back over there with all the cash you have and make the deal for whatever will take it. Get a short term note for the rest to get it out of there, if you can't afford it you will make money in days if you have to sell it to payoff the note. You young guys take note, times like this show the importance of good credit and a personal relationship with a bank. If you can be responsible with it, this is the time to have a home equity or personal line of credit, so you can just write the check on the spot. I missed out on a couple of great deals because I was TOO conservative and didn't borrow the money for those cars, and I've been kicking myself ever since. About 9 years ago I passed on a completely restored, perfect '34 5W for $16.5K and it still haunts me today. STOOPID!!!

When you ask a closing question about a sale...SHUT UP.
For example if you ask..."What do you want to get for it?"...then BE QUIET. The next one that speaks loses. Put the onus on HIM to set the price/expectation.
