No that went south first thing. It has an old chrome 34 dropped axle with Lincoln brakes and Buick drums.

Seems like a bargain price to me, aren't those quarters like $1200 each? Sounds like you paid the cost of the new quarters and floors and got the original pieces for free. Is the roof completely un-salvageable?

 

Someone could save the roof but somebody has butchered the area around quarter windows and sail panel area. I pick up a solid 4 door rear roof section and think that will be easier to cut into what it needs than redoing the mess. I don't do the metal work I'm just the frame, steering, brakes and engine. Thank goodness for friends that do metal working and paint. I added all the new parts up to around 7,500. Came with new Steves decklid and used running boards plus a new steel windshield frame.

I've gone back to working on my SAR 34 3W. Body is all welded up and sent to the shop that finished my chopped 34 to get it up through prime. Full set of fenders coming from SAR. The chassis is to the point that I need an engine and trans for mock-up. This will be a brother to my chopped car. Don't be offended by my Mustang in the background.

Hey, one hammered 34 is enough. This one will not be getting the axe. Must be getting old. I decided to keep this one stock appearing, sbc, 700r4, fenders and actually have an interior. Black on black on black. May start a build thread in the future.

 

How about an SBF? The 302 (stroked to 348) sounds alot more like an old flathead:
... if you want it to apear stock, I mean.

Need help from someone here. I'm going to be running fenders on my new 3W build and need to know if my rear tire/wheel and rear end will clear the fenders (when I get them).
I have 65 inches across, side to side, at the outside of the tread. I need to know if this rear end will work.
I'm going for the look of the "Kenneth31coupe" 33 5W above. Love that stance.

Dan - I did a quick measurement on the tread width of the rear of my full-fendered 34 five window - it has a Ford nine inch - and got 65 inches. You should be ok with your set up, but what is the rear end that you are planning on using?

 

The 9" is out of a 68 Mustang and measured 59 1/4". The rear wheels are 16x4 1/2 with the Excelsior tires. It just looked like to much clearance between the inside of the tire and the frame. (You can see the issue in my post above.) I'm getting ready to clean and powder coat the housing and don't want to waist $ on a rear that won't work . Thanks for the info.

 

Xman. I have 65" outside of the tread and running 7.50-16 so I think your fine with that axel.

 

Great, Thanks. I'm getting ready to pull the rear end out for powder coat. I feel better about doing it now. Normally I put the whole car together to make sure everything works but on this car it may be a long time before I have everything.

 

Haven't been on here in awhile. Xman can't wait to see the finished product! For all you hambers Xman is good guy got some Don Smart quarterso from him a couple years back and we are states away. But I traveled all the way to Turlock CA. For swap couple weeks back took 3w in pieces. Thanks to jalopy joker there was pics on Turlock coverage. Anyways decided to build so stay tuned!
