The parents can pound sand up their asses. Drop the charges? They can't be serious, can they? The only thing I'd like to see dropped is their drawers as a lifer makes a bitch out of em.
And hey, all that bravdo about blanket parties and lifter socks, it doesn't play well. As jacked as it is we have a criminal justice system. It gets jacked even worse when charges are dropped after crimes like this. No amount of community service or probation will evoke a cure or add a degree of protection to personal property. You have the law on your side right now, I'd say forget the posturing and bravado, make those PUBLIC SERVANTS do the job you pay them to do. Those damages to the tweekers will last a decade, bumps and bruises go away in weeks, soon forgotten when it's time to get high. And all that "karma" bullshit? Fuck karma, this life is what WE make it, what WE see as opportunity, the quality of life WE create for ourselves and our own. Still, I'm really happy for you that you've been able to retrieve what you have so far. Stay the course and good luck with the law.

Research the zoning rules on fences in your town, see just how shitty the dopers side can be. Bob

  4. fuck that! no deals, obviously in and out of the pokey the last 10 years has done little to educate this habitual asshole.... lock that turd up!

  5. I have seen this before. Didn't end well. Guy drops the charges, kid is back out on the street. Kid gets high again on some bad crap and O.D.'s. Parents break up over it. Sister has to go live with the grandmother because she can't get along with the parents anymore. No-one wins. Put this sick jerk back in jail. Maybe the rest of his family can have somewhat of a decent life!

Great point. Also Hunters (anything in season now?). Jeep or off road clubs (they're special vehicle interest guys too when you get right down to it).
The frames are too heavy to haul by hand, so they should be within eyesight of a road-unless they were tossed down an embankment.

Fuck the piece of shit parent too. That's quid pro quo and not far removed from extortion, coercion and the DA should be taking notes. With that up front offer, I'd ask the DA to consider pressing charges against the parents as accomplices. Let them prove they had no knowledge or involvement of the crime committed out of their home. Hold out for a sentence AND settlement. Restitution for any unaccounted for parts, will be decided by the judge AFTER the dope head is sentenced for his CRIME. In the end if the parents help Jr. out with the settlement bailout, that's probably a good thing because I'm sure Jr. is a deadbeat, judgement proof leach of society. He's a repeat offender and should do some hard time. Remember, like any criminal, his criminal history only represents what he's been caught with. Like the molester that gets caught and we find out how many other victims have fallen prey, I have to wonder how many other people were ripped off by this guy. Hopefully, the police warrant, search the house and find some other stolen goods.

I dearly hope your frames and rear clip surface! If not, you should spend some time gathering examples of what ORIGINAL rear clips, frames, etc. are going for and documenting by printing out classified ads, etc. I would also document every hour of time you've spent on the case (phone, driving, internet) so you have a timecard of the disruption to your free time spent on the case-and bill them for it along with your parts $ loss.

Let's not forget the TIME and GAS and WEAR and TEAR on your vehicle BUYING the parts in the FIRST place-
It's not hard to use up a day going to look at stuff . ( or pay shipping)
A part you want that's listed for $200. could easily be worth another $100. by the time it's in your hands.
( Gas, food, tolls, missed income from work ( not that any of us would skip work to get parts( (HaHa).

  8. QUOTE:
The parents of the thief have offered to pay for any of the stuff I don't recover if charges are dropped. Better to get the shit back and lock his ass up!

B S they(parents) should be charged for harboring a felon. I'm sure the cost to replace if possible would be more than enough to qualify for the money quota that would make this theft a felony.

I hope you can recover your parts but I wouldn't let the thieves off the hook and drop charges if it were me. They are your parts and its your time wasted, they need to be held accountable and the parents neighbors or not are just enabling their son you wouldnt be helping them.

Someone must have had hunters on the lookout for my '27 tub before I got it... Hunters 'marked their spot'. (drivers side doors, just 3: .38 cal.)
They don't usually shoot at frames...

Has this made the front page of your local paper? If not it should, you have to wonder what else has gone missing and up the nose of that punk. Bob

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and comments! Its true, this guy has had mommy and daddy bailing his ass out of trouble since he was a kid..I have seen it all before! But I am hopeful that the rest of the parts will be found and then let justice prevail!.. Believe me I want to drop the hammer on this but I'm being patient that the rest of the parts will be recovered first.
friends with quads and razors out looking and the 4wd guys who play out there are all keeping eyes peeled. I know several guys in Jeep clubs who are out looking all weekend..My gut feeling is the big parts were found by someone and picked up for scrap. If so,the scrap yards in the area will let me know if anything turns up.
Thanks again everyone on the HAMB for your support! You guys are the best!

Is this scum worth going to jail for? Yes, saying it makes us feel better but.... we are better than they are.

Since he was caught red handed wouldnt he have to pay restitution for any parts not found and returned anyway? I think you should find out exactly what your rights are and his parents legal responsibility forharboring a felon as well

  17. Hopefully a few more things made home this weekend. Glad to hear some of it has been recovered.

lie to the parents and say after the parts are returned you will drop charges. Then after you get all your things back say sorry I changed my mind. Cop are allowed to lie to perps {Frazer v Culp} is the court case. so I guess you tell the truth to police but lie to the perp. all is fair in love and war.

Please don't do that. Prosecute to the full extent of the law, whether or not you get your shit back. This is a man with a serious problem. He's a drug abuser and he's abusing the privilege of his family's love and support.

If he goes to jail for a couple of years to cool off and sober up, everyone's life is improved. It may not be what he wants to have happen, or what his family wants, but you might save his life.

I hope you find your Model 40 stuff regardless! :D Good luck to you.

Just an update..We have not located any more of the missing parts and decided that the charges will stand.. let the law deal with this jerk and hopefully get another doper off the streets..
NJ law does state that judge can order felon to pay restitution for stolen property not recovered.

I would go on ebay and find the items you had for the highest ended auction price ,you can than copy each individual item .. multiples auctions actually .. Judge will want to
See an average price ... Make a folder to present to judge ... I believe if you don't prove it's not a bunch of rusty scrap and make it easy on them to see your stuff had real value it will be appreciated by both you and the judge

^^^^^^^ Agreed 100%- go for TOP dollar; it's not like you can drive to Walmart and buy these parts . It's pretty hard to even put a dollar value on some stuff if it's original (and having the parts you need is worth MORE than money sometimes.)
I hope the Judge is an auto enthusiast and throws the book at this kid- sounds like he needs a good kick in the pants ( his parents too- " apples don't fall far from the tree"- corny, but true).
Good luck with it all, George!

  23. Crazy story. Good to hear that not all is lost, but it sucks that you have to go out and spend a butt load of time and money to recover stuff that should have never left the driveway. The family probably could never pay the value of the parts anyways.
Also nice to see that the hamb is ready to serve up some rough justice. All I can do is wish you luck, and I hope everything you lost is soon recovered while the bum enjoys jail for a long time.

When this all works it way through the courts please let us know what happened, and if this scum bag had to serve time and pay you some money. Good luck.
