Only a T coupe or Tudor can survive a 8" inch chop, maybe Chuck Norris, but it would be sacrilege to chop that beautiful car!!

made some more saw dust. started with the front header piece. kinda tricky it had lots of angle cuts that had to be made on a curve. a couple of rabbets that had to be made on a curve. because of the arch i started with a thick chunk of ash. thanks Tom.
had time this evening to cut a couple pieces and glue some together. i needed to remake the end of one of the pieces of wood that makes up the board just above the windshield. interesting that they made it this way; they cut a tenon in the end and then cut a piece, with the grain running perpendicular, to "cap" the end. did they do this for strength? or was it so they could use a narrower board across the top and use the end "cap" as an extension. this piece is from the passenger side rear corner of the roof opening. the slot is supposed to be a hole with a T-nut embedded into it. the wood rotted and the screw was loose and could not be tightened. the arched rabbet appears to have been cut by pushing the piece into a spinning saw blade. i would love to see how all this was done at the factory DSCF3697.JPG DSCF3698.JPG DSCF3699.JPG

the band saw, edge sander and table saw were 145 paces from the car, 150 paces by the end of the day. those two little pieces wore me out. good thing about working with wood is the scraps keep you warm. DSCF3709.JPG

Don't sand it especially on non cleared metallic paint, use Easy Off oven cleaner it'll wipe right off without damaging the finish. Let it soak till you see it soften the lettering then wipe and rinse with water.

Well, just burned 2 hours instead of doing my work. Best 2 hours of the day for sure. I'm late to the party but I'm damn glad I caught up. Love the history, to see you and your dad turning wrenches, cutting wood and just having a great time. Lost my dad when I was 15, he had bought me a 32 ford that we were going to build, you're lucky man. So impressed with the whole journey and I will be following. Thanks for sharing.

nailed the top sheet metal down. i replaced some of the nails and added a few for good measure. i also welded the top back up where i had to open it up to expose the frozen t-nuts. DSCF3712.JPG DSCF3711.JPG DSCF3710.JPG

one of the front header pieces above the windshield had a slight twist to it, and a crack at the mounting bolt so i decided to make a new piece. i will finish the end piece tomorrow like i did for the other side. DSCF3713.JPG
