Hey guys...I need pictures of '33 Chevy coupes on this thread. Old school hotrods, chopped, racecars, salt flat cars, old photos of '33 Chev coupes-fendered or not. A fellow I work with sez that nobody ran a '33 Chevy coupe because they were so fragile. I told him he's nuts. Prove him wrong...dig out all the old school '33's! Please?????
He probably means that most of 33's were fragile because they had a lot of wood in the inner structure of the body (door posts, doors, floors, etc.). Most of the old chevy's didn't last as long as the old fords due to that. I replaced a lot of the wood in my 34 with steel and made new wood pieces where applicable. Here's a small pic when we were chopping it. After making a steel floor and filling the roof, it's far from fragile now. -Rich
Ha, Go to my web site www.rousecustomfabrication.com and see my coupe that I am working on. I replaced all of the wood with steel. Actually ran this car in '62 and '63 at LaPlace Drag Strip. Won a couple of trophies too. Now it is time for the street. Mike...
Chevys don't last??? HAHAHAHA, my uncle set the body of my '33 in the bottom of a ravine over FORTY years ago. We literally had to dig it out of the ground, it held up great. The inner structure is rotten wood, these things are very strong considering the outer sheet metal is the only thing holding it together.
Here's another one that "survived" over 30 years of neglect....although the wood was replaced by a roll cage back int he 60's: See many more pictures here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=165476
