Got 2 more layers on today. Except Im not sure about the chicken wire again though. It is a little wavy So I will try a few staples to see if I can pull it tight. I didn’t want to use it became Im not using it for an antenna like original… Will just throw a nice blue tooth Speaker in the back when I want Some Music…but… I was thinking if ever a rock or pine cone or something fell on the roof it wouldn’t go through and hit me in the coconut! Cotton layer will go on top of it. Then the vinyl. Black Canvas- quilt foam- chicken wire Cotton- vinyl
Things are getting real! Got my Gator Print! The ‘33 is getting “Rick-a-Fied”! No longer Pops Style at all! But still Cool! (Better…shhhh..)
I am flying now! I "Rick-a-fied it"! I went with the 64-68 theme I have going and Gatored The Top! I'm gonna use the same stuff on the interior, door panels and kick panels in such ! Pulled the edges of the cotton to blend better with the edges Rolled the bows and edged to flatten the padding across the bows better! Awesome! I just need to use that Maguires wire wheel stuff on the top-trim, and then polish it then I can mount that ! Don't wanna wait too long in case the Staples decide to loosen up ! Of course I put a butt load of them in! there stainless 5/16 Note: For those of you that are interested, I started in the back middle of the top…put three staples, when around to the front, stretched it, put three staples in, then went to each side in the middle and pulled it, with three more staples, and then I went to the corners like I’m pointing and then just worked my way around from there, pulling and stretching the whole time! In case you guys want to do your own top??? It’s a learning experience, but I think it’s turning out good !!
Thanks! I wasn’t sure at first when I ordered it because it’s slightly thinner than the stock vinyl, but it’s a lot more pliable so I got it really tight didn’t even use glue. And it’s supposed to be marine grade auto grade, etc….?
Here’s what the exposed inside looks like now without light shining through, it looks pretty awesome! It turned out better than I thought it would! I’m going to work on the chrome trim that goes around the edge today, tie it down and finish it up hopefully!!
TOP IS DONE!!! another mile stone!! I think the motor circuit is gonna be next, so I have to weld up my exhaust, start hooking up the engine, plumbing and wiring and run it before I put the rest of it together! Inspiration too!! Yuy-Yeah!!!
Exhaust is done! It’s starting to look like a life-size Revell model!!! Working on the 33 and listening to the best surf music ever!!!
So… I didn’t like any of the aftermarket fuel blocks that mount to your firewall for hot rods. They all require two or three carburetors, etc. and in my opinion look pretty ugly. So… I made one! Have an exactly figured the fitting placement yet, either barbed or hard lined, or a combo. Those fittings are just in there for reference. I hardlined most of the fuel line all the way back to the tank, except for in between the fuel filter and fuel pump.
Love the pic your pops sent for your birthday. That's exactly as I remember driving around the streets of Vallejo with Dolly behind the wheel. You are doing a great job with her.
That’s funny you said that cause I was thinking about it we got some black anthracite we use for heavy stuff at work. But I think I might polish it to match the air cleaner and the breather. Here I got a picture now if what I’m doing I think I’m just gonna run a hose from the barb fitting over to the carb. It’s only like 10 or 12 inches. I don’t think it’ll be worth it to hardline it from there and then a little short, 3 inch piece or whatever.?
So… Is it sacrilege to put billet aluminum on a vintage traditional car? Not the way I do it!!! So I took dump rats, idea of blasting it for that cast look. I used the black anthracite hard-core stuff. I just put plugs in the hole so it wouldn’t screw it up, then I sanded it, 220-red 3M- Green 3M—and polished it up with my favorite wonderful product “Flitz” (love that stuff!) So, I could have kept sanding it lighter and lighter, and made it perfectly smooth, but I wanted it to have that little bit of cast look. And shiny Thanks Dump Rat! for the idea.!
Your welcome! I used black braided nylon hose from my hard line to carb. It is a little safer than 12" of rubber hose. Just a thought.
My dad thinks I shouldn’t of used compression fittings on the hard lines, but I’ve never had any leaks and I do it all day long at work for way higher pressure stuff, airlines, 90 pound water supply. I would never use it on hydraulic or brake stuff but, fuel, water air…when there’s what? 4-8 pounds of pressure.? Maybe 10 if it was dead headed? I bought some of that heavy duty marine hose for now, but I might do a braided line later from the firewall to the carb.
Starter sounds like it could use some lube or something! 40lbs of oil pressure at cranking is huge I would think. Get er fired up!
Another week or so! Wire up ignition, finish fuel line And PCV line. Hook up Fan and radiator, fuel pump, bolt on exhaust BAM! And now I finally figured out how to upload a video!
So I found the miniature tiny marks my Pops put on there. what is a flathead timing set at? Imagine those lines look like 2-4-6-8?
I am flying on this car now! I rebuilt, painted and installed the driveshaft! It clears everything and fits nice inside my drop down crossmember. Installed the fan, and radiator. Also bolted in the exhaust. Just need to finish tje fuel And PCV lines. Got my wiring staged, and all figured out. Also got the engine primed with oil. And the timing all figured out! Found the timing marks! I AM SO EXCITED TO GET THIS THING RUNNING!!!
Next little small project! Need to get it hooked up before I put coolant in. Yeah yeah I know I could skip it for now, but I need to stay on track. It’s super easy though the core is perfect. I just need to clean it up and give it a quick coat of paint put it back together and install the 12 V motor.
More Done…got some tweaking do do on the heater mounts, fan…fuel line, and carb linkage mods… everything take 3 times longer than you think…. Every-time!
Soo…got tired, and cranky yesterday Trying to get further along.. so instead of breaking things, I waited until today to rethink my heater situation.. 1. The 12v motor was CCWise.. Luckily the other fan I have, is 6v CCW! (Hello Luck) but the hub was a little tight…so I drilled it out and then made it to loose! So then set screw stripped on me, and the fan was gonna hit the one-off only good core in the entire world!!! (Just kidding) but maybe. so….finally, I just stopped…so I would Not destroy everything in a fit of rage! 2. The other issue was the bracket threads are way too long, also the core tubes, but I didn’t wanna cut them because of that flared end. So, today I came up with this redneck Idee-ur’ with flaring the ends. One hose clamp to hold it against the thread, and one clamp to hold it at the end. Then wack it with a tapered piece of metal. By-Golly! it worked!!’ Re-tapped the hub, and used some blue Loctite…so now the fan is set!! Amazing what a night sleep will do!!
Boy! Did I get Lucky! I couldn’t believe I found these baffled Tips like I use to run on my mini-trucks back in the 80’s! And they are the exact same size as my open tips! So if the flatty is to loud, I can slip them on the ends to see the difference, and if they sound better I just chop the old ones and slip on the ends. And weld them! My V8 Open pipe Harley! Nyuck-Nyuck!
