ss34coupe, Nice build. I really like the traditional approach you are taking. That's going to be a great car/

Thanks Johnny - the coupe will be ready in time for Deuce Days, but I would rather go look at the cars than stand around mine all day. If you or any other Hambers are coming over for the show, you are welcome to come by and check out the cars in my garage!

The body waits to go on the chassis for the final time. A long way from the race track it used to run on...

Enfieldjoe - the body has already been channeled the width of the frame.
Check out photos in earlier posts in this thread to see the channel. A lot of hot rods were built by channeling the body over the frame back in the day, hopefully my car gives others the idea to try it as well in this era of the revival of the traditional hot rod.

Thunderbirdesq - I can't wait to get the body back on the frame as well. That is always an exciting part of the build because you know there is no turning back.
If I was moving on this project as fast as you are on your coupe, it would have been done a long time ago!

Today I worked on the front brakes. Using repro Lincoln brakes all around on this coupe, with 45 fin Buick drums on the front. Got the Wilson Welding hubs mounted on the drums, but it looks like I will have to machine a bit off the inner lip of the drum in order to get it to seat correctly against the backing plate. Anyone done this and can say how much needs to be machined off?

SOB is going to finish before me! :) Glad to see your coming along. Post more pics of the body and underside channel work if you have time. I'd like to see how someone else is doing it.

392Hemi - check out post #32 of this thread for the underside shots of the channel. Keep plugging away at yours, it will get done!

I ran into this. It just kind of varies. One side didn't hit at all and the other side we just kept milling it down until it cleared. Maybe 1/8-3/16" ?

thanks Dave. I'm thinking it is in the range that you suggest. Going to work some more on it today, and then start on the pedals and hydraulic brake conversion. Hope you are finding time to work on your coupe.

Got the wheels painted today. Did them up in red to provide some contrast for all the black that covers everything else. Fronts are 15 x 5 and rears are 16 x 5 - with a 5 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern.

Also ordered a hydraulic brake conversion kit made by the Early V8 Garage.
I have read and heard good things about this setup, and spoke to Richard today who was very helpful in taking the order. Getting the master cylinder and pedal rebuilt kit all at the same time. Hey, maybe this car will get done this year....now I got to hunt down a flywheel and clutch to fit the Cad motor to the 39 Ford trans.......

I know I have been promising that this build will get done this year. But stuff happens that seems to slow things down. In this case, it is good stuff, because a couple of weeks ago I came across a genuine barn find 34 Ford three window coupe - the best and most complete 34 coupe I have ever seen. You bet I bought it - and no, it was not a bargain, it was a lot of money. So today the new 34 (I know, I already have one of those you say....) came home and found a place in my garage. So the 33 is on hold while I get acquainted with my new project....and yes, I will soon start a thread about this barn find....with pics, of course. Stay tuned......

Here is a pic of the 34 three window - a barn-fresh car. Will post a separate thread on the find soon.

The build on this 33 coupe is on hold because I have boxed myself in with too many projects! A good thing in some ways, but when the garage is too full it is hard to work on anything. The kids are grown and moved out, so it is time to find a smaller house with a bigger shop! Then I can really enjoy this wonderful hobby and work on several projects at the same time.

There's the 33 five window in the background being squeezed out by the newest project, this 34 3 window. Still looking for a place with a bigger shop - it is going to take awhile and so the cars will come along slowly. Would be great to have a place where I could put all four of my cars in at the same time, and have room to work on them. It will happen, so please be patient and this 33 coupe will come together!
