Tonight I ran into something that surprised me. I removed the grill from my 33 ford to install a pan behind the lower part...behind the crank hole. Things went pretty smoothly and put both my 33 grills together for a photo. That's when I saw one had the V/8 emblem was much higher in the grill than the other one! I assumed [I know, I know] all 33 ford passenger grills were the same but obviously not. Is one an early and one a late? I know the one with the emblem in place came from a buddy's 33, 3 window and the other came from Alchemy's dad's stash. Only one grill has an emblem because I only have one emblem but they both bolt up the same... Anybody know wassup here?
How many different factories were building them ? Bound to be plenty of variation on most parts. Not like today with computers making them all the same.
The correct porcelain emblem for 1933 is unique to that year. Here is a pic of an original one I have. The V8 emblem should be close to the top at just before where the bars begin the curve inwards. The pic of my '33 shows where it should be like in your second pic(bracket location).
The little V8 emblem can be put anywhere you tighten up the clamp on the back. If your grille has the bracket on the back welded in place, somebody after Henry did the welding. The Ford oval only fits in one place and they are all in the same place. Except on Rocky's. His is missing, so maybe he has the long lost prototype grille that somehow escaped the test room.

Upon closer inspection, the sliding backing bracket for the V/8 emblem isn't welded to the back of the grill bars.......its' just stuck in the folds of 2 grill bars! I can knock it loose and re position it anywhere I want. And all this time that little gray painted bracket was an irritant to me, sitting out there all by itself and all I needed to get rid of it was give it a little tap with a screw driver ... My blue oval was damaged and I lost it somewhere in my stash of parts. The red oval on the other grill was a gift given by a buddy from Sweden. He said it came off a European Ford. Thanks for the replies!
Alchemy is pretty sharp on this stuff isn’t he ! Tommy That red oval is pretty cool though,,,I like it.
We’ve all been caught out in similar ways..... Don’t ever admit to being an idiot, - I prefer to say that I am still learning........ And the older you get (and play with old cars), the more you learn.........
How that little bracket never fell off and went through your right rear tire at 80 mph is a mystery. -Abone.
