So, I did some trading and ended up with this 33 Ford project. It's really a pretty nice truck for its age. It has a few issues that I will need to overcome, but it should be fun.

    Here's what it has:
    -dropped 32 heavy axle
    -split wishbone
    -juice brakes
-running 21 stud flathead (37 ish vintage)
    -9" rear
-nice 33 frame that has been sandblasted already

Here's what Ive done so far:
    -3" chop
    -louvered hood
-a bunch of cleaning with alot more to be done

    As for a plan?
-get it running, driving, titled and registered
-I've got a rebuilt open drive flathead 3 speed for it
-Put in a 59 AB flathead I've got for it (shaved heads and Hexagon tool dual carb intake)
-Guide 682-C headlights with a dropped bar
    -Full fendered
-possibly use a 32 commercial grille I've got (if it will work without too much hassle)
-black 33-34 17" wires with bigs and littles

Anyways, here's the pics so far:

Thats a good looking truck to start with, not much major work to do to make it look right.

    The chop looks perfect!

Hey Mitch, what is the bolt pattern on the front wheels? Looks like small ford? What is hiding in there?

The bolt pattern on the front is 5 on 4 1/2". I'm probably going to have to change up the spindles to get the early Ford pattern. There seems to be quite a bit more room in this truck compared to a model A truck. I'm pretty happy with the 3" chop.

    So,

Time for an update. I cleaned up the 59AB flathead that I had. Took great care in pulling the heads and studs (without breaking a single one I might add). Cleaned up the lifter valley, cleaned all of the cylinders up and then flipped her over. There was a crack that ran from the front water pump mount clear through to the center main. Huh....now what??? I got $37 in scrap for it.

So, change of plans. I made a few phone calls and came up with a quick and simple small block Chevy for a smokin deal from a friend. I know, I know, please don't give up on me yet. It's a freshly rebuilt 1957 283 with some nice polished aluminum bits and pieces. Another phone call and I picked up a Weiand Drag Star intake with six Holley 94's. Oh yeah and it's all chrome manifold, carbs, linkage, fuel rail, everything. A few years back, another friend had given me an early Mallory dual point Chevy distributor with the flat cap. So now, I'm shooting for a period of pre-1960.

This is all completely new to me. I've never owned a Chevy motor, and it's actually been alot of fun learning this stuff. I've always considered myself a flathead guy, but I'll try it just this once =)

    The boring old Chevy

Gotta have some 1950's style caps on 15" wheels (52 Merc). Don't yell at me yet, the radials are temporary.

And the rendering my buddy Chris did on his phone. His handle here on the HAMB is Cheater Slick and he does awesome work. This is just one of his quick scribbles. He told me today that he may do an actual rendering of this for me. Stay tuned......

The 283 looks great! What are you going to do with the spare tire well?

Not really sure what I'm going to do with the spare tire well yet. I'm really not too excited about cutting on these front fenders because they are in exceptional shape.

I had a good weekend at the Albany swap meet and will be ordering up some tires tomorrow. Right now I'm thinking 670-15's on the front and 820-15 in the back. They will be Firestone wide whites. Having never played with 15" bias ply tires before, it's a little confusing. I just hope that there will be a big enough difference between the two sizes to giv a "big-n-little" look.

    I welcome any criticisms/suggestions.

    Thanks,
    Mitch

I like the chop. I unchopped my first 34...it was too low. Yours is subtle enough.
