I've got a chance to buy a '65 330 Olds w/tranny and was wondering how they were.

It's a decent motor. If it's cheap, take it! If it turns out to be bad or something, it will at least give you a forged crankshaft. Check under the valve covers. In '64 they had shaft-style rockers, but they change mid '65 I think. Nothing incredibly wrong with the shaft style, but they changed it for a reason. If you really want an Olds small block, get a 350.

  3. My cousin had a 330 in a 64 cutlass with a 3 speed stick. It was astounding for a small engine. That thing cranked! I wouldn't mind slipping one in a shubox ford or other lightweight car...

Years ago the Olds guys used the forged crank with another block to make some screamen drag stuff . I haven't seen anyone do that for awhile though.

The forged crank is quite good.

It'll run, and if you put its crank and rods in a 350, it'll make more power and rev til the cows come home.

    330 rods aren't special...but 403 rods are forged...

    330 Forged crank? Check...

    403 Forged rods? Check...

An infinate wallet to build a screaming Olds small block? ... [IMG]

Oh, and the transmission! Manual or auto? If it's an auto it's just a crappy GM 2-speed, pretty worthless.

330-350 rods are forged steel also.they are a strong rod.the 403 rods are slightly stronger, but only beacuse they have more material.wich makes them heavier rods, and arnt needed.ive compaired them, and found them to be a waste in my opinion.
the sb olds is still the best late olds motor for making the most power.there is lots of new products comming out for the bb olds, but well have to wait, and see what they do.the bb olds is still king of bang for the buck power though.the sb's still scream. [IMG]
