Someone was asking about this over @ the HH Forum & Bob said he measured a difference of .510 instead of .200, but may have been total length of the crank.

......0.510" is HUGE.....I'll guess a typo but wonder exactly what is being measured...
    Apples to apples sorta thing.

  3. I put a long 331 in my Willys and the stock starter location interfered with my Corvair steering gear. My solution was to weld a starter mount on the passenger side of the bottom bell housing. Made it from 1/4" steel plate. I think I am using an Olds starter. Been 30 years, don't remember!

I am running the shorter 53 331 crank in my NE56 354. You are correct at approx .200 shorter. I measured .213 on mine. Take some Aluminum round stock and have a good lath machinist make a .210 spacer for between the crank flange on the crank and the flywheel. Be sure the spacer / adapter is machined to keep the flywheel centered. We also cross drilled the crank and it was tough drilling. I am also looking for 54 - 56 Short bell housing 331 - 354 crank shaft that has been magnifluxed and is known good. Sorry no spell checker on this computer. I know this is a way past thread date but may still help someone out.
