I'll take a pair if they fit the '53 331. What year heads were the patterns made from, or what years have they been know to fit? When and where with the $35? Any plans for intake flanges? I would love to build my own log intake.
I gave some bad (not specific enough) info here earlier... The exhaust bolt holes will line up on all the 49-62 motors, they stay the same as far as spacing goes... But the exhaust port sizes grew much larger on the 365-390's. {I also remember there being an increase around 1952/53? on the 331's?} The width of the exhaust ports are almost identical from 331ci to 390ci, however, the height of the middle ports increased by a little more than a 1/4" and the side ports height increased by almost a 1/2". The later exhaust manifolds will not swap onto some 331 heads without some modification, you will see some daylight in the size difference. I could go on here, but this isn't answering the question at hand. The question I believe was will the 331 flanges work on the 365/390 mills. They will line up bolt hole wise, but you will need to ("you should") remove approx 1/4" to 1/2" of the flange material to get the ideal flow. Bolt them on your heads, and die grind accordingly. As long as these flanges are made with some extra meat on them for porting height wise they should work fine. With that said, I would also be interested in a set if you make them. -Torr
UPDATE: Did a trial cut today had to make some changes to the program and went down to 5/16" material due to warpage.Doing another trial cut tomorrow to see how they look. I'm sending the first set to Evel for test fitting if they work I will be sending out the rest of the orders. If 5/16" don't work for you let me know and I'll refund your cash. Thanks for being patient,it's crazy at work and I'm just another customer so I have to wait in line too.
Is it too late to get in on this? :beg: PM me and ill get dollars in the mail tomorrow. I have a '55 331.
UPDATE:I hope to be sending out all the orders by the end on the week. Our programmer made a error otherwise they would have been sent out yesterday(Mon).Looks like there might have to be some modification made around the dipstick but it should'nt be too much of a problem.Sorry for the wait! Scoop
How did the 5/16"s turn out? I made a run of some different flanges in 3/8"s because thats what we had, and they came out like a turd in a punch bowl. Way too thick IMO. I was thinking 1/4" How thick are the ePay ones?
For what it's worth, the old speed equipment catalogs list three different part numbers for Cadillac flanges: '49-'51, '52-'55, and '56-'62. I've got a set of Belond headers that must have been intended for '49-'51, because they're quite small.
Ran into few glitches, then the torch went down, hoping to get them fixed next week.I'm really sorry for the delay. If any of you guys want a refund let me know.
Just curious, how are you cuttin these and how are they warping? I work with alot of 3/8" flanges since IMO they warp less when welding (I think when welding, 1/4" is way too thin especially on engines where the middle 2 cylinders are close, like SBCs and Y-blocks). Hank
Warped in some of the areas around the ports and bolt holes.I'm cutting with a high def plasma,we've been having some problems with the torch lately so maybe that was causing the problems.Do you sell just the mandrel bent pipes?
I understand, some of the port designs don't leave room for much material. Yep, we sell bends; pm me or email me and let me know what you need. Hank
I expect the flanges will be cut early next week, sorry for the delay this has been an adventure with these flanges to say the least.
