331 Cadillac how to remove the transmission?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Jalopy Kid, Oct 27, 2009.

  1. I'm trying to separate a 331 Cadillac from the transmission.
The engine is seized so I can turn the engine over to unbolt the torque converter so instead i thought I would just leave the torque converter bolted to the flex plate and and keep it with the engine so I can still get the ****** off. However it wont come apart. the bellhousing moves about a half an inch back and that's it. Is there anything else inside that could be holding it? Does the converter slide off the ****** like a modern automatic?

    No it does not
You must take out the 32 bolts holding the torous together
If engine is froze you must unbolt the crank......all rod caps and main caps off and keep in order for later use.. and take crank out with trans connected then unbolt torous.Make sure to push bell dowels in some for clearance

  3. well ****.... I guess i will just leave them together then. The engine is seized from sitting uncovered for years, the oil pan was full of water. I just wanted to seperate them so I could put the engine on a stand so it wasnt sitting on the floor, I have no plans of rebuilding it, just wanted it for parts.

    Thanks for the reply's!!
