Ok guys,Just a simple question.I have never worked on a 331 Cadillac before and have to install new rocker shafts. I would assume that the rocker shaft stands are a press fit on to the shafts? I have read all about rocker shaft orientation but nothing about the stands, Any tips? thanks
rocker stands just slide on, it is the bolts through them that hold everything together. look at 8:25 on this video
Thanks for the info. Funny thing is that I pulled the rocker assemblies off my spare engine and they are as you described but the ones on the original engine are smaller in the ID by a few thousands and the bolts are tight in the stands.Weird
When adding a race cam* to early V8 OHV Cady, one trick was to use a set of Studebaker OHV V8 rockers< they can fit Early Cady and are adjustable rocks vs Cady have no adjustments,so don't work with race cams that are not Hydraulic.
I didn't watch the video, but yes, the shafts are a slip fit through the stands, and obviously the rockers. A generous coating of assembly oil on ALL of the parts, is very beneficial during the assembly and it also aids in the initial start-up. When you tighten the stand fasteners, to NOT do the initial rundown all at one time. Do a couple of turns on all of them, then a couple of turns more, until all are tight. Tightening "one" at a time is likely to damage the shaft and or the stand. Mike
