I am c'urrently helping to build a 331 Cadillac engine that is in a Allard K2. This engine is engine unit number 8M661, which dates it to 1950. This engine never had a serial number, so it was never installed in a factory car. This engine has been bored and sleeved out to 3.990", and the crank has had the rod journals welded up and offset ground to make it a stroker ( along with two plates welded to the counter weights to rebalance it). It is rumored that the engine was sent to the west coast and modified by Vic Edelbrock and then shipped back before being installed in the car. We have not been able to substantiate this though. It has a set of cast Jahns pistons, and an Iskenderian Big Full cam (with the numbers O 400 2326 on it). The intake is a Detroit Racing Equipment 2x2, and it has a Mallory ignition. This car was raced in the early 50s, wrecked, then left outside to rot for over 25 years before it was rescued and restored, a rebuilt stock 331 was installed at that time for better reliability. It is being restored again, but will be getting it's original stroker engine re-installed, along with some other correct restoration parts that were not available when it was done the first time. The main questions that I have about the engine are the cam, specifically the specs on it, and does anyone know if a double roller timing chain is available for early Cadillac engines?
