I'm starting to rebuild a 331 1955 Hemi and was wondering if the stock cam would work for me. I don't plan on racing this engine. It is going in an A roadster with no fenders. Not much weight. This engine came from the factory with the four barrel carb.

In stock form this was the 235HP engine, with 2 barrel the same engine had 180HP.

Plenty of power for your hot rod. The stock cam and compression are very mild, it should run fine on regular gas. Uses hydraulic lifters.

I would try it in stock form, even stock exhaust manifolds with dual exhausts. Drive the car long enough to chase the bugs out and get everything working good then if you want more power, they are one of the easiest engines to hop up, in the sense of having a lot of potential power to unleash.

  3. Well it will work but there are many grinds available but your gearing and tire size play a large role in cam selection. Build the hemi just like any other engine. Do your homework and you wont be let down.

Check the HEMI Tech Index for cam info by the overload.
