hey guys,, Ive noticed some pictures where the crank key is all the way back so that it fits into the keyway cutout on the oil slinger? is this something that needs to happen or does slinger just need to spin as the crank gets rolling along? I was thinking that it was cutout so that you could install it with key in? I did get a longer key than the original and can make it fit to the slinger. Thanks for any input
I believe the spinner should spin with the crank to spin off the oil. Also reduce wear on the crank and spinner it self
yea I was thinking that too Rich,, thanks for the input.. noone has any detail of this. I am using the Hot heads front cover with the modified 340 harmonic balancer. I think it was mounted differently with the factory cover and waterpump..
Don't forget that the slinger gets pinched between the damper and the timing gear, so it has no choice but to rotate with the crankshaft. Just make sure the timing gear and damper are EACH keyed to the crank and you will be good.
since posting I happened to find my instructions for the converted balancer from hotheads, turns out there is a spacer "which I found" that goes between balancer and slinger that pinches it so that it spins as Dodgeboy stated!... makes all the difference lol... note to self, don't buy stuff and let it sit around get moved and things get misplaced!
